Hiring out a coop!?? #1174275

As some of you may remember i'm progressing with a self drive hire venture.

The thought has crossed my mind as to whether the coop would be a good car to offer for hire? I know that here is completely the wrong place to get interest in that idea, but might be a good place for feedback!

Why am i thinking this? Well, it will one day become a classic, its a very unique design, seriously understated to those who dont know about the car, looks & drives great.

I have a list of god knows how many cars which are on a "cars i'd love to drive but probably wont ever own, or drive, unless i know someone who owns one" list

As well as offering a few well known 'faces' to hire out, i'd like to offer a few cars that are a little different!

Thoughts?

The idea is good, but this bit is very, very bad.

Something is either unique or it is not, it can't be very unique.

I like the coop idea though, although you're unlikely to be able to command a premium price for hiring one out, and it would have to be a very good one.

Ah i see! Gotcha.

Definately not thinking of a premium price, probably something like £99 for a 1 day hire or something. No firm prices in mind yet but certainly no more that £99.

I'm considering getting a few interesting cars that i can offer like that, i.e. £99 a day or similar, the coop being one of them.

I'm looking to get my sprinty resprayed, wheels done & all niggles sorted so i can use this. Mine is completely standard & interior is in very good nick, so when its all re-sprayed it should look great!

I'd ask Flea to program a chip that puts the rev limiter at 5.5k. smile

I like the idea of it, but it probably would get thrashed, but then again, I think if your paying good money to drive a car, any car, for a day or two people are going to thrash it, if thats the word we are going to use.

But I think to have like a £99 list, is good.

Getting back on track about the coop, good idea, but might sell a bit more if it was LE or Plus, as you could then state its limited edition, and looks a bit sportier too.
But if you already have a standard 20vt, then so be it.

I know we're very fond of our coupes but would people actually want to pay good money to drive one for a day?

I'm not so sure. Sorry.

Well.... just had a brief look and it seems you can hire nissan note for 93 quid a day! So if you can get the coop to pay at £99 you might have something.

Joe bloggs, 32 years old, needs a car for a day.... nissan note 1.4 or fiat coupe 20v turbo...hmmmm

What would you take?

Think of it this way, why would someone looking into the hire of a Nissan Note consider the use of a Coupe?

Polar opposites. The only appeal the Coupe would have is as a fun toy type hire. I think people would actually prefer to save up for an Aston or the like if they're going to the effort. The £99 hire charge would appeal to those looking for a car to thrash around for a laugh.

surely that will happen to any "supercar " you hire out under these circumstances. What about insurance? you will need a pretty adaptable policy to cater for everyone on a fully comp basis!

Sorry, I see no one wanting to higher a coupe for the day.

If they want a coupe experience all they need do pretend there are random warning lights on there dash, obsess about there oil pressure and then when needing to attend some important event, stop at the side of the motorway for 3-4 hours and call the AA out laugh

I hired a brand new Golf for a weekend, if I could have had a Coupe instead for the same price I would have bitten their arm off, also had a kia c'eed and nearly went to sleep on the M62.

Other options like an old E38 740i or a Mk2 MR2 turbo would be cool too.

Introducing the 'Problems, Paranoia and Pride' Package at £99.

Welcome to the rollercoaster ride known as the Fiat Coupe. Enjoy the rapid power delivery, the tight handling and the addictive sound of the 5 pot turbo charged engine as you become one with the car!

But that’s not it, we have several options to make your Coupe experience realistic and unique, including:

1. The bonnet flying open while you are driving
2. One of the wheels coming off while you are driving
3. One of the springs snap while you are driving
4. The coolant hose splits while you are driving

We will then have the car towed to one of the specialists across the country who will then fix it whilst you do some therapeutic shopping.

We'll also provide you with a username and password for the Fiat Coupe forum where you can inform other forum members of what has happened and keep them updated as to the progress of the repairs on your Coupe.

After picking the Coupe up, you can then drive it home where we guarantee you will be driving it slowly, carefully listening to the weird sounds you are imagining and keeping an eye on the various gauges.

Get it home and indulge in some OCD which you never had before, as you give it a thorough clean inside and out making sure you make it sparkle like a diamond. Then take about 50 photos of it whilst trying to avoid the attention of your neighbours who think you are acting weird.

Then bring it back to us and as you drive off into the distance start to wave at it and cry.

The 'Problems, Paranoia and Pride' Package - perfect for those who want to test their sanity.

Point taken but what I was trying to put across was the fact that it would cost the same as hiring a nissan note, to hire an equivalent car would cost £££ more.

Yes it would prolly be thrashed but its a hire car, thats what happens.

Interesting Mark, but how far is the hirer able to drive the car? Is it only within GB? Or to the Continent?

The reason I ask is that in 2013 the organiser of a touring event that I have entered for the last 3 years (from Sydney to Melbourne) is talking about organising an event from London to Rome.

I have been in a 20V Coupe each year, so another one in that event would be cool! It's a 6 day tour through France, over the Alps, through Milan and down to Rome. Don't know entry fee yet so don't even know if I can afford it!

He expects a lot of Brits to enter, so any interest from you guys?
