I'm going to be adding the 20VT lump with drivetrain into my alfa GTV.

After blowing up my previous engine twice and replacing it, I think I may as well add the engine it should have had smile

So you'll see me much more, with questions and progress updates etc.

PS, i'm going to be aiming for 300 or over bhp and been reading the tuning section for a while now and it seems to be an easy target to reach.

Brad.

Hello and welcome to your new home.

Interesting project, i'd be keen to see how this one pans out.

Are the engines similar in mounting arrangement?

I was considering an Alfa V6 transplant into my 20V N/A

Exactly the same, should be a straight swap but the wiring is the hard part si I decided to go omex from the start and get them to supply me with a harness.

If possible I should have it in and drivable in a week smile just need to source the parts first and that's will take a little longer.

Will go FMIC as I am sure the GTV bumper has huge space behind it although not that high mind.

Also the price for Garrett GT28RS turbo chargers seem to be quite reasonable as well.

OK, started organising the parts I need, contacted omex about the ECU and pricing and it's a tad expensive to say the least but worth it I think.

ECU is 845 alone and harness is between 450 and 550, couldn't get a more definitive answer then that.

Brakes (Pads, discs and lines), Wheel bearings (yes mine are FUBAR) FMIC ebay special LOL! Walbro fuel pump, IIRC, this is compatible with the pump housing in my GTV.

I have 155 V6 coilovers on my 155 twinny with coupe 20vt hubs, new TREs and track rods all hiding in a garage in south London LOL. Need to buy some adjustable rear shocks as the 155 rears are not compatible, think the springs are though.

Then it's finding a donor 20VT coupe willing to donate it's heart to my GTV blush

ECU £845
loom £450~550
All brake parts approx £320
FMIC kit approx £150
Walbro 255LPH fuel pump £70
possible uprated fuel pressure regulator £30~90

Donor Coupe £ anywhere between £500~1000 please crazy

Gonna be expensive blush

Why not use the ECU and loom from the donor coupe?

Welcome! I thought I recognised your signature, Alfa Owners I guess?

Seems to be a common thing people putting 20VT engines in other cars.

Am I the only one who'd put an Alfa 3.0 V6 in the Fiat Coupe.. ?

Because I don't have the time or space to keep the donor around for more then a day or so, just won't have the time to rip the harness out, that and the time to splice it into the GTV as it is my daily drive so I am wanting to only have it off the road for a week or so.

Would be nice if it was simple eh!? LOL

Try contacting Joe (countrycruising/FCSS) he could probably sort you a lump+loom+ecu etc for less than you are planning to spend on the ECU alone.

In Bulgaria there is a Alfa GTV fitted with 20V Turbo engine from Coupe!
There (in BG Alfa forum) are lots of pictures and you may find useful!
You can write and the owner, if you have specific questions.

I'd echo the previous comments about a complete engine/harness/loom. The engine-ecu loom has a single fat loom - it's an inch or more thick - but only half a dozen connections to the main loom.

On the kit conversion I used effectively all the loom and the matching fusebox, and just spliced the front-to-back loom to pick up the rear lights and speakers. That might not be as effective on the Alfa since there are probably a lot of Alfa-specific ancillaries.

From memory there are a number of looms:
1) engine-ecu (sensors and signals, mostly, and starter and alternator)
2) engine compartment - cabin (power, lights, alarm etc)
3) fuse box - rear (lights, speakers, heated rear window, control box for interior lights, electric windows, and locks)
4) fuse-box - instrument panel (instruments, front speakers, console switches, fan/aircon etc)
5) instrument loom to door looms (x2) with locks, window power, door switches, speakers
and a number of other smaller looms for things like ABS, Airbags and so on.

I would strongly recommend joining the club to get access to the high-resolution manual - you *will* need the details in the electrical section at the very least. There are detailed descriptions of each subsystem, all connectors, and the positions of the parts in the car. It's critical...

Only real issue I can see is that the gtv has service relays in the boot where normally they'd be under the bonnet/drivers footwell. How much is it to join? Think I'll do it when I get home tonight smile

About a percent of your initial budget... fifteen quid.

Brakes ordered cool
brembo discs front and rear, stock rear pads for now and tarox fast road for the fronts.

Tomorrow I'll get the suspension, hubs, tres and rods from my 155 lurking in the south and then wait for the brake components to show, then i'll fit the at once and have 305mm on the TS till I get the donor coupe laugh

Ok I couldn't get the damn coupe hubs off, well I couldn't get one off so just left the other. But I did get the shocks at least.

Found my coupe brembos and I'll see if I can refurb them otherwise it's use the ones I just bought and will receive next week.

Need some coupe hubs!

Ok, been offered a 16vt setup currently pushing 260bhp with everything to make it work for a decent price so I took up the chance smile hopefully I'll have it by me this weekend and the fun starts!
