With my Coupe going through a transition period at the moment, I thought it would be fun to see how other Coupes are fairing. My 20vt has gone from a solid, tidy daily to SORN'ed dusty and tucked away.

This is how I'd rate her;

6 months ago;

Exterior - 7/10
Generally tidy, no rust but a few dings and mild scratches

Interior - 9/10
Needs new mats to bring it to almost as new

Mechnical - 9/10
Very good having been continually fettled to keep it sweet.

-----------------------------------------------

Now (Stored);

Exterior - 6/10
Dusty and unloved

Interior - 7/10
Cold, dusty and un-used

Mechanical - 5/10
Needs a cam belt change and 4x new discs

-----------------------------------------------

In 6 months time (After a mild restoration);

Exterior - 10/10
Re-spray on the horizon and full rust prevention love

Interior - 9.5/10
New mats and leather bucket seats coming cloud9

Mechanical - 9.5/10
Amoungst other bits and bobs, a full suspension refresh (except for springs and wishbones), belts changed and some bits to make her go faster wink

Took ownership of 18k-miler Plus (built 2000, first owned 2005) in August 2010. Have since done 6k miles.

The maintenance tally so far:

1) New brakes all round.
2) Manifold welded.
3) Refurbed turbo.
4) Lots of other smaller things, like CV boots etc.

Not THAT bad really, when I look at it.

Lots of other cosmetic enhancements and small mods done as well, but none of these were strictly necessary.

The condition is near immaculate. One of the better ones in Malaysia, but if this car were in the UK, it would probably be regarded as one of the best.

Still gives me smiles. smile

8/10 overall. Anything even slightly better costs significantly more money, and that's the bottom line for me really.

That's a good point. What about the 110%+ you hear of in shows like the X-Factor?

Where do we start..

Bodywork ..3.125 out of 10 dent, ditty dent, ditty dent dent dent...

Interior.....4...going to 4.5 after the mcdonnalds drive through

Mechanical.....2 to 3 depending on misfires/squealing brakes/ groaning steering depending on the cars mood that day.

Oil pressure is excellent at 3 bar on it's total loss system (cam cover leak) which means you save the labor of oil changes! But runs poorly on 175bhp (when 4 of the cylinders decide to chime in together) and a full 220bhp which appears at random just on the apex of a wet and greasy 'S' bend...

Body work 7-8, had full resprayed and alloys refurbishedin the last 2 years but daily drive still takes it's toll.
Interior is about the same, leather fed a few times each year.
Engine, about 8. I've replaced f'ing everything apart from the block and gearbox...Plus Joe runs his hands over it two or three times each year.

Funny thing is even after all the work and effort it's never perfect, always something left to do or fix. My seat belt has now started to jam...

Bodywork .. 8.5 - No dents or dings but a couple of small scratches on the rear bumper and some stonechips on the bonnet and front bumper .. even after a 3k windows out proper paint job in 2008 frown

Interior .. 9.5 Completely retrimmed leather interior with next to no wear, regularly gliptoned leather and protected vinyl/plastic with uv sealants. nearly 2k worth of stereo with handsfree bluetooth.

Mechanical..... 9 Running v.healthy with no issues for the past 1.5 years (although it is standard / 220 bhp) .. Horns are rusty though and rocker cover flaking a bit of paint. Complete suspension refresh inc. wishbones/droplinks and the car feels tighter than a virgin evil

Agree with Shifty, there is always something nigly that needs sorting

However had a new clutch front brake lines CHOD and suspension components whilst I hade the engine in bits also had new discs and pads all round. in summer 2010

Exterior 7
Had calipers painted and a whilst engine was being worked on I sprayed the strut bar rocker cover and thuroughly cleaned the engine. Also sprayed light cups in black.
Xenons were also fitted.

Needs New Le lips/ front bumper requires me to respray it.
Alloy wheels although ok, need a refurb to be mint.
couple of very minor indents to the bodywork but not bad.

Interior 8
Centre console needs a refurb, am going to spray it inky very soon, also requires some dash bulbs on console.

So in next 2 months,
have got my paint sat on the shelf both for the bodywork and the wheels. just need time.

It's nice to see I'm not the only one with a redundant dusty old coupe longing for some love!

Current ratings:

Exterior, 3/10. Sitting on the drive gathering bird poo, rust on bonnet and rear wheel arch, 7 different shades of yellow at the moment. Will definitely be getting a full respray before she's back on the road.

Interior, 1/10. In pieces at the moment, respraying the consoles and fitting new leather gaitors, Hyundai coupe seats in the process of being fitted. Otherwise in good condition.

Mechanically 5/10. Still starts first time even with 4 months standing. Brakes rusted solid, cambelt well overdue, clutch probably needs doing. Battalion of new parts waiting to be fitted include bilstiens, eibachs, arbs, discs, pads, braided, hoses, refurbed headlights (looking amazing!) oh and not to forget full 2.75 blueflame turbo back de cat system which should take me up to about 310bhp smile

Cannot wait to get the old beast back up and running!

Back into retirement, for now at least . . . Broomy will come out to play next year smile

Mine:

Exterior - 6/10Generally tidy and a lot better than when I first bought it, but has always had a dent on the o/s rear since before I bought it and the last couple of years of bad weather and loose gravel has made more stone chips appear frown

Interior - 7/10
Always full of fag ash and stones lol and I should fit my spare drivers seat, as the one that's in it now is badly worn.

Mechnical - 8/10
Giving this an 8 and touching wood lol. I change the oil and filter regular and keep an eye on other bits such as the suspension, etc.
Still on original turbo, clutch and chod as far as I know though.

Interior:7/10
Very clean and tidy, just need some refurb on one leather seat (or better buy some good plus seats)

Engine:9/10
Runs smooth and perfect,i have finished a very big maintenance and i have changed all most everything, so it´s almost perfect for now laugh

Exterior 9/10
Has been pampered from new with no car park dings but just kissed the kerb with one of the alloys DOH!!

Interior 9/10
All as new nearly, slight wear on the drivers bolster (LE interior)

Mechanically 10/10
The best maintained coop there is BAR NONE, when it needs to be changed it is changed immediately. New this year: 3rd cambelt and ancilliaries, clutch, radiator, whiteline rear arb, wishbones and droplinks, new MTEC discs all round, new front Pagid yellows rear ebc yellowstuff, new Nigel front brace. Last year: new hybrid and remap, new FMIC, top brace, eibachs. Along with a box file of receipts and service history from Poweritalia since day 1.

S##t I'm adding up what I've bloody spent to keep the coop in this condition!!

Think I need to sell soon.....

I look forward to seeing this one. Although I suspect there are ANY of our cars, no matter how cherised and how empty a pocket, that would score a perfect 10!

I think we need an independant adjudicator evil

I'd rate my car 10/10 for mechanical cause everything has been done.

Exterior 8/10 for the age.

It needs some new b pillars cause I'm fussy and maybe one 2 many stone chips on bumper bonnet. Also want fuel filler changed.

Interior 8/10 - slight wear on drivers bolster and centre consol sticky and marked.

Overall it's very clean for just buying it. Within the month most of those things will be sorted so will be 9/10 overall.

Ross

I agree 10 is a tough call for an 11 year old car but with 58000 miles and the service history this has you won't find a better coop out there. Ask Roger at Poweritalia as an independant if you like

Exterior - 8/10 I was damn lucky - Bought Icebergs own car and this one has the least door dings I have seen on a Coupe. Only one real slight ding bizzarely on the drivers A frame?!? My only real exterior issue are stone chips that continue to pot mark the nose. Other than that - super-clean and nice and AG-shiney for a Steel.

Interior - 9/10 Almost factory-fresh. Seats have original bolster shape - just leather creasing stops a higher score though they are leather-creamed almost daily (thanks MCMike!!) My dash is also almost scratch-free....

Mechnical - 8/10 12 monthly Motor-Mech'ed and anything thats needed done there and then. Runs perfect. Only down-scored as I still need to under-bonnet clean (next task). I need to free off the rear calipers still as they are biting on in reverse due to lack of use.

Next To Do:
1. Free off rear calipers.
2. Finally get to DVLA to sort out adding my P.Plate.
3. Under Bonnet clean.
4. New LE wheel centres.
5. Sort out stone-chips

Then it'll be onto more performance mods....

Engine 8/10 only because of shoe string tuning when I got the car, I.e the biggest cheapest dump valve know to man and the shit manual boost controller which I found lying on top of my undertray ! Ha ha So new dump valve and top stabiliser straight away and ebc when other things are done .

Reliability 10/10 never had a problem with it , starts first time every time and has always been cooled down after use ,fitted a second hand rad and welded my manifold up ,new rocker cover gasket and freashened up rocker cover with rear lug still attached :-)

Exterior 8/10 resprayed about two months ago and already got stone chips in my pui front bumper and rust in my passenger wing which I knew about and will be replacing when I can be bothered .

Interior 7/10 some usual wear in the lower bolster but no burst leather and rest of interior is near tip top

Suspension 8/10 done 4 new springs front two top mounts and anti roll bar links,
rear trailing arm bearings and two rear wheel bearings still got front arms to do .

Over all I give my car a 7/10 still alot of little things to sort which is really annoying but still going like stink so hay hoo .

Engine 9/10. 129k miles and holds over 2.5bar when hot. Serviced atleast twice a year, maintained regardless. 3 clutches, 5 cambelt changes in 9 years. If something is removed, its also cleaned laugh

Reliability 8/10. Nothing major has ever happened. Electrical stuff seems to be the only niggle (Touch wood)

Exterior 2/10. frown Stupid lacquer peel. 100% original paintwork. Loads of car park dents. Tiny bit of surface rust on front of bonnet

Interior 5/10. Nothing special, just clean cloth interior. Could do with some new mats

Suspension 9/10. Since owning almost everything has been replaced. Regular strip and check, plus regrease etc.

To Do:
- Fit aux belt guard
- Fit new wheels (Team Dynamics Pro Race) & buy tyres for them
- Respray whole car, fit lips and skirts

Someone lend me £2k for a respray? I'll be your best friend....
