My car always causes some kind of debate or argument at work, which i don't mind as most of them haven't a clue about cars. I was talking to a younger female colleague who really dislikes the coupe. She doesn't really know what it is but it is "one ugly car" apparently. I know it's not everyones cuppa tea, but she wont shut up about it! Mabye she hates the green? I thought i'd ask into more detail why she hates it and she just said, "it looks really ugly for a new car" She thought i had payed 6 or 7 grand for it. When i told her it cost 1k she seemed so shocked. She also believed it was some new car she had never seen before, so when i told her it was 15 years old she seemed shocked again. Over the past few days, armed with this new information she seems to be accepting the coupe a little more. Not her thing, but she's not droning on about how UGLY it is...as much! Well, i cant please everyone

Boxy, haha! I remember laughing at the thread saying the Coupe looked like a Nissan JUKE(PUKE).
I feel i have to explain what the Coupe is to everyone i meet (who has very little car knowledge), just incase they get the wrong idea and think its some FUGLY modern concept car thing!

Does it really matter what people think about it though? I chose a Coupe because I loved the looks, etc, but certainly wouldn't keep justifying why to someone else. I can understand why she thinks it's ugly, just as we have opinions about some other cars being ugly.

I'm not so bothered what people think, i just like to make them aware of what the Coupe actually is. It doesn't bother me she thinks it's ugly (although she goes on about it alot) but it was nice to make her aware of what it actually is and to see her change those thoughts slightly. It's like judging a book by it's cover (and thats pretty Marmite to be fair), and if people like to make it into a debate, i like to put them in their place Fair play if they hate the car and know exactly what its like to drive and own, at least thats a fair opinion

The point i originally wanted to get across is how the Coupe was well ahead of it's time, if it can get away looking like a modern car and still looks expensive.

I find it bizarre that anyone could ever find a coupe 'ugly'. A girl mate of mine called my old coupe an 'ugly old car', sometimes i think it's jealousy as i think it's one of the best looking/distinctive cars on the road regardless of price or expense, just such a fantastic shape. I did when they first came out and I ain't alone. Took me a couple of years to change my mind though - then I was hooked and had to have one.

It was love at first sight for me. I saw one but no clue what it was as it sped past. One day I saw a couple at a dealership in Portsmouth. I had to have one when I found out what they were. Had to sell for baby reasons. Now just bought another one. Had to buy wife a Shogun LWB first though We have a 1 and two year old so had to compromise. Took most of the cash I had for my coupe I was going to spend. At least I have a porto this time :marco: They are so rare where I live. I showed someone what I was buying. He went out and bought one too. Only my sister has ever said to me that they are ugly. She always hates my cars

It could well be the green. I'm picking up a sprinty i went to view today on the weekend!! (this is in no way linked into her not liking the colour ) I wonder if i get similar comments My work colleague is buying my green one so they will be parked together, and easily compared P.S I'm looking forward to picking up the new Coupe!

When I first started to notice them around I thought the front looked amazing!! But the back end seemd a bit under designed, a bit too basic. But it has since grown on me, to the point where I appreciate the whole car and ended up getting one. Yeah i definitely agree the front is a lot better but you get used to the back end and learn to love the wedgy shape and those unique rear lights

Ditto Tommy, I always enjoy following behind a coupe, I think it's the simplicity of the rear that does it for me

Have you noticed just how much better a coupe looks when it is going down the road. Looking at it from every angle on the drive for hours it just doesn't look as good.

Have to agree, from some angles it looks fantastic, from some it looks a bit awkward.
Also I know mine is probably one of the lower cars on the forum (sorry, blame owning old VWs for that!) but Coupes with standard wheels and suspension look almost like tractors. The wheels/Tyres are way to small for the size of the arches making the arch gap look ridiculous!*
*this is all personal opinion, and understand not everyone wants to worry about catching sump/exhaust etc on speedbump/camber/frogs/catseyes...

From a purely observational view, there are two types that purchase/have a Coop. Those who want a cheap fast car & those who almost have a love affair with the car. If I'm totally honest, I'm a bit of both, although far more with the latter. I must admit though, walking down my street, you can't initially see my Coop because it sits low, hidden by other vehicles, then you catch a glimpse of the cars back end, fat tyres hunched low looking like a sports car thats still up there, just waiting to be driven fast OK,OK I'll stop now.
I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

Undoubtedly, when on the move or passing you on the other side of the road they really catch your eye when you're just minding your own business

When you have a coupe coming up behind you and you spot it in your rear view mirror, particularly the brighter colours they look amazing!
