Hi guys. I'm wondering what the maximum power ever achieved on a 20vt with everything completely standard
Standard exhaust, full system Standard airbox.+filter Standard intercooler Standard 28 turbo, 360 bearings, not a power mod obviosly Whatever spark plugs , not a power mod Fuel pump mod, probably not a direct power mod. Standard cams Unworked head Standard rubber intake pipes,
But either a flea remap or Gtec. And anything else that can be modified to get a bit more out of it,.
Proven figures would be nice but a group average would suffice, so if everyone who reads this just posts a number that in reality the coupe would never achieve then that would be great. Thanks
Ill start things off and say 275 bhp (engine)

not sure what you mean by a fuel pump mod that isn't a direct feed? but is standard (so not a different fuel pump?)
anyways....
it'll be a Flea mapped coupe and not a Gtech, prob about 270, Gtech's were/are known for producing about 250 tops.

Paul Yes, mine gives 246 with a gtech. Only none standard things on mine are stainless cat back exhaust, induction kit and a Forge recirc dump valve. Everything else is standard.

Any idea what your mods are worth T? Can't be more than 10 brake I wouldn't have thought, if the Gtec makes more power with those mods that is. My guess is it doesn't really.
So if you put performance parts onto a coupe with a gtec, the likelyness of them making it perform better are smaller than if you got flea to remap and work to the advantage of the parts you put on.?

I have a feeling the gtec makes 26bhp and the pipe and filter make,,,, darth vader+vroom noises. No offence to anyone, and I'm not slating modifying but rather trying to understand what mods really do at ground level, so can the gtec make more power with an exhaust or filter or a flea remap.
Nigel can you leave a power figure for the post please thanks

The mods work together, as in the gtech works with them.

Ok, so for example if you have a standard coupe20vt fitted with a Gtec 1, and its pushing out 240 bhp.
If you pop a exhaust worth 5 bhp and a filter worth 2bhp Then it goes to 247,
So the engine just makes more power because it can flow better naturally and not because the chip has felt the mods and allowed for them? Thanks

Standard coupe with Gtech 1 fitted and I got 261bhp. Only other mod was a super sprint exhaust, purely because it was cheaper than and OE one . Standard airbox and intercooler.

its all totally engine dependant, not just age, mileage, treatment etc some are just more powerful "out the box" Over the years people have had Gtech chipped coops on RR at 230 odd bhp and others have had completely standard coops RR at 240bhp. I'm sure that Fiat had something like a 5% tolerence allowance at the time when they were building the coop ( I know they didn't make it themselves) 220bhp minus 5% = 209bhp, 220bhp + 5% = 231. Bhp diff could easily be bigger, if the 5% was based on tolerances in the actual engine, and would explain why the specialists regularly comment on cars feeling "quicker" than standard even thought they are standard. Without wanting to start a big argument, rolling roads make a difference aswell. So best way for you to find out is rolling road your car stnd and then get chip/flea map and then go back to same rolling road and get redone.

Think im right in saying, and partially echoing Kayjay that modifications often seem poor on paper, but in reality a great map even one offering only 25-30 bhp more will have the power used far more efficiently giving smoother usable power and such tweeks as exhausts make a difference to how freely the engine revs and how quickly the turbo begins to spool. transforming a car.

My car is booked in with Flea mid April so will hopefully get a BHP figure (if it goes on the rollers)
Mods are -
Cat back exhaust K&N induction kit Gtec 1 Dastek Unichip (piggyback ecu) T28 Hybrid turbo Pro Alloy FMIC
The chap i bought it off used to run some other mods, and had 260 - 270 IIRC on the rollers when he had the Dastek fitted.
With a Flea map, i reckon it will be in the high 200's.

I'm making 1456bhp at the wheels with mine. Polished the paint and changed the front grill to the plus type. After a Flea map, I could be going supersonic. Look forward to that then Note - If you fold back the wing mirrors on the rolling road, you will get even more power being produced - they reduce drag you see

Just dug out this thread Jason - clicky Seems my car might be running a few more ponies than i thought then, as with Std Turbo, Std downpipe, cat-back Powerfiat exhaust, Gtec1, Pro Alloy FMIC and K&N panel filter, it made 264.6bhp. Maybe with a bit of Flea magic i'll crack the 300 club.
