I recently purchased this car from No1topShotta with the alleged spec as below:

The car has just had a brand new cat back exhaust fitted this year - cost £350. sounds awsum

The new hybrid turbo comes with adjustable boost and a boost gauge inside the car to view what you are running.cost £350 FITTED, 1yr ago

A performance k and n type cone airfilter -£70

G-tech 2 superchip have been installed.

black leathers in good condition

pics show zender kit, but this has been removed to standard kit, fully colour coded.

new 3 piece valeo clutch kit - cost £450, only installed 20k ago

engine rebuild 35k ago

timing belt and aux belt done 20k ago - plenty of life left.

aircon

reconned silver brembos

bodywork good all round

electrics work

There were supposed to be receipts to back all this up but the only relevant one in the paperwork supplied was for the clutch and didn't tie in with the mileage quoted. I'm not sure if the car that arrived was even the one described wink as it's fairly rusty and holey with oil and water leaks, a worn out drivers seat, interior panels pulled out, aircon piping cut, standard exhaust with silver spray paint all over it and the handbrake cables etc and definitely not colour coded. My own fault though, I took a gamble after having such a good experience buying my wife's coupe from within the forum. Haven't received any replies to my emails since receiving the car so looking for some help to find out its history.

Need to get positive and try to work out what I actually have. If anyone knows anything about this car regarding turbo spec, engine rebuild etc I'd love to know about it. The engine does sound really quiet and smooth which would suggest some of the above may be true as it's a 150k car. It looks like it's been well cared for at some point then stripped of anything good and possibly passed through a few owners. Hoping to save it from the scrapyard or the coupe breaking section! smile

Sorry mate, I have no info on here but wish to post a snippet if that's alright, I bought my coupe not from on the forum,
However a decent sounding bloke, he said

Its got a new long life exhaust.
All belts been done in the last 10K
It has a organic paddle clutch, wich is why its a lot stiff,
New discs and pads,

All of this part list was wrong,
The so called exhaust was only a tip haha sucker
Even the cam belt was cracked underneath,
Clutch was still the original one with 125k on it.
Discs have the biggest lips you ever saw, all the obvious things were brought up when I viewed the car however, and I saw he was a tosser, still bought it as it was a job worth doing.

I would say print off the guide to buying on here and take that with any buyer and take a forum buddy if possible whose worth there mustard,

Ps I would never expect that off a forum member, I would expect honest facts and nothing less,
If there is no history of belts done, don't fib, say it straight,
Jason

Good point. ot sure what the club or mods can do crazy If the car was not as advertised then you should take it up with the seller. If you did not check the car over before buying then you may be in for a rocky ride. Never assume becasue someone joins a forum that they are honest. There are too many cases of people joining up only to try and use the forum as a means to rip people off frown

Hi Ross, Ronnie said you're back in the coupe world but not chasing big power this time, the bug'll get you!

I've had a couple of coupes before and know them pretty well. The main thing I was interested in was the engine. A healthy engine with a hybrid turbo and receipts sounded perfect. I can weld and have another car for spare parts. Was planning a full respray anyway. Really needed to know spec of turbo and when belts were done as i want to make sure all the mods match.

I dont think there's any point trying to reach a resolution etc. Would probably just take up more time than it was worth. I'm based near Glasgow and car came up from London. With work being busy there simply wasn't time to go down. There was plenty of correspondence regards oil pressure, red key and all the usual coupe questions before purchase so seemed fine.

I couldn't remember what my old one user name was from back in the day. Just glad Kelv can't see this pile of junk! I had a perfectly good ink black standardish coupe but really wanted to build my ideal one and didn't want a sunroof. Wish I'd just welded in a roof panel now.

Nah he's alluding to the fact that someone like me, who isn't a club member, but has been a long standing forum member, may not be as trustworthy as a club member.

Yup, still have the old mk1 and 2 Escorts. Feel the need for a coupe in my life as well though.

Ideal coupe has no sunroof, black leather, is a dark metallic non standard colour, 17" wheels, low, hybrid turbo, front mount intercooler, uprated fuel pump and wiring, 3" downpipe, decat, 3" system with an exit either side of the car, digital boost gauge, simple manual boost controller, induction cone on a straight intake pipe, decent recirc dump valve, gtec 1 initially then a proper map, refurbed Brembos, HIDs, led side lights, grooved discs and some top secret metalwork mods that I think will just perfect the shape. No bodykits/ skirts etc. Smooth, low and clean.

Think that pretty much covers it.

Au contraire, Ross - a club member or a forum user are equally only as trustworthy as their reputation. Number of posts or length of membership is immaterial - though a long membership gives more time to gain a reputation.

Take me as an example: I've had the coupe coming on fifteen years; I've got a captain slow no modifications reputation, simply from my posts on general subjects. So if I offered a 20vt tuned to 400bhp, you'd probably want to ask yourself if I knew what I was doing. On the other hand, if I offered a standard car, you'd probably know what to expect and be surprised if it were otherwise. It's not just what's being offered, it's when it's being offered and by whom - everybody makes their own mind up about these things.

I'm perhaps in the position simply because of my visibility that I *couldn't* offer anything other than a car exactly as described - but while I'd describe it properly, it's equally as likely as any other to get trashed on the drive to its new owner.

I was being flippant to be honest, but your point is very valid. It is the reputation that counts... although in that case, its a wonder anyone ever buys anything from me!! laugh

I do believe the inky is now mine though not an inky anymore! smile far from perfect but a decent base and sun roofs great in the sunshine btw , could be worse you could drive it for a while then jack it up and find out the rear wheels are hanging off shocked

True, it's now 'smartie blue'. I said perfectly good, not perfect! laugh ideal strong base, both engine and chassis wise. I did offer to swap you my two for it back but you didn't seem exactly keen. wink Have you put any pics of the transformation on the forum?

Not giving away any hints on the bodywork as this is looking to be a slow process and I don't want anyone to beat me to it. It's nothing drastic or crazy but something I haven't seen on another coupe before.

Does anyone actually recognise the car? It looks like it's had a front mount as the air con 'radiator' has been removed. Don't want to spend too much time on it if I'm going to have loads of problems or don't know the spec. Failing any history does anyone know how to identify different hybrids? What to measure etc. Any help much appreciated.

Need to look over the other shell. Might be better to take the engine from this one and swap it. Too many decisions. crazy
