Iv been wondering this for some time. so for all you track monsters whove pushed the coupe before out on track
please help me out.
laugh
is the coupe built to see 155 MPH
Is it a nice place to be doing that speed.
does it feel safe?
what revs a standard coupe get to 155 at?

i'm not that experienced, but i don't know of a track where the coupe will see 155mph - you need one hell of a straight to do that, more like an airport runway

I have never been able to get to that sort of speed on track Zimpy.
On track its all about getting round corners as fast as possible with falling of. So getting your driving lines correct along with braking and the right point.
Once out of a bend it foot down until the next braking zone.
My max speed so far on track has been 130mph for a brief second or two before braking like a mad dog.

Yeah 155 I've not hit on any UK track, although I touched 150 at Goodwood last month at the very top end of 4th, and at Castle Combe 140 is possible if you're brave. Perhaps the full GP track at Brands is possible, but never done it. But that's in my modified 20vt, not standard.

I've heard you use 5th gear at Spa though, so must hit 155?

i was too busy sh1tting myself round Spa but on the long straight after eau rouge i think i "only" got to 135mph - having said that i was having to run on base boost due to mapping issues, so it might be possible

The long straight after eau rouge is an uphill section. And not slightly - I've walked around the full course. On a standard Coupe you might see 130 - 135 on gps or thereabouts.

With regards to your title... It's track 'driving', not 'racing'. Nobody races anything or anyone at track days, we just drive fast on a track, in full control, not outbreaking or even getting very close to anyone else. smile

Having hit 165mph on autobahns I can say that the Coupe felt pretty good and stable actually. smile

I think it would be close at Bedford on the main straight?

A completely standard Coupe wouldn't reach 155 on any UK circuit, with the possible exception of Milbrook's 2-mile banked circle (although after 120, you're cornering, which scrubs speed off)

There are several airfields where 150+ is possible in a standard Coupe, especially if you get a decent entry speed onto the straight.

In a modded Coupe, speeds of 175+ are achievable

As for how it feels - if the Coupe is standard AND well maintained AND perfectly set up, it will handle 155mph just fine.

For a modded car, with a good selection of chassis mods, even 160+ isn't much of a drama, although you really don't get much of a feel when you're on a wide open airfield.

The only proviso to all of the above, is that you HAVE to be very confident in your brakes to get up to 150+. Cheap pads will fade in seconds. Old fluid will boil in seconds. Pad fade or fluid boiling generally means almost no brakes, which is no fun when you're still at a three-figure speed.

Be careful out there....

Hmm - my 306 was showing an indicated 110-115 there, and when I went out in a (standard) M3 Evo it hit 140mph (again indicated) - they are very quick above 100 though. Modded coupe I reckon could get close.

I was doing 120ish, sometimes 125 in the Clio 182, only slowing to 105 a few times for the kerbs laugh

Based on what I remember the coop could do compared to the clio wink , a standard coupe would probably do approximately 140 at the end.

I followed a Clio 182 round Bedford when I was running standard suspension and around 300bhp. I waltzed away down the straight, but he was much faster than me through the left/right at the end of the straight, which meant that our overall lap time was remarkably similar. He was better round most of the corners, especially the very fast ones. I was good out of the slow corners, where the extra weight over the front end made a difference to traction. On the brakes, I think he was better, primarily because he didn't seem to use them very much shocked

I think my modded 20VT would hit 140-145 at the end of the long straight at bedford - running around 300bhp. Still pulling hard though!

This is where i did 130mph a few weeks ago. http://www.circuit-valdevienne.fr/ On the long curving straight at the bottom of the picture. I reckon some of the bigger hp coupes could do very well there.
A new Audi S3 could not get past me there.

You can hit 140 in a 350hp coupe on Bedford GT.
