They are the best all red lenses I have seen too. Edz can you tell me where to go for the that first, and how much if you dont mind??
Then ill get on your case Nismo for the LED stuff. Shall I start ordering that gear off ebay in that link you posted in this thread mate?
Many thanks chaps.

if you order these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-30CM-30-Red-LE...=item4cf118527c you will need to order 2 sets so you can do the tops and bottoms , get yourself another set of lights with the bulb holders and wiring still in them so you can put the old ones back in if you don't like them , then give me a shout and we'll meet up and i'll do them for you and make a how to for everyone else but they are easy to do its just the wiring you need to think about .

Many thanks chaps. Ebay Link to Spray about 7 quid Get someone who is good at spraying to do this - the paint will eat into the lenses not the best plastic (maybe why people have trouble paint them) - Did help the weather is warm. Get 2 sets of led’s should be about 11 quid - get the 30 led’s - chop 3 off Split the lenses carefully Insert the led strips will sit in the cup end lenses part nicely Glue back together - Nismo also put sealant around the edge for air tight seal Then a bit of fun wiring them up to your side lights - Most people should be able to figure this out. Hope this helps as a how too

Phil , if you have ordered the 30 led's you will need to cut them down to 27 led's but be very careful when your doing this . the led's are grouped in 3's so use a very sharp stanly blade when you do it , 30 led's are to much to try and get in the lense .

Edz,
When you say indicators glow a bit red - Is that due to the reflection from the light bulb to and from the led colour ??

no i just used a big flat headed screw driver and went arount the lip and you can hear the glue crack as you work your way around the lense , use some marsking tape at one end so you know where to place the lense when you super glue them back together , i also used some sealant around the edge for air tight seal once the super glue had dryed .

work out what is the + and - for the led's using a battery charger as they will only work one way round , look at the grey plug thats comes from the break light and you should have 3 wires orange , white , black . use a electrical screw driver and remove the pins black and white wires and leave the orange wire in the plug from the back of the plug , use a spade connector that you will need to cut down so it fits into the grey connector wiring from the car , put the white pin into the middle slot and connect the + from the leds ( using the cut down spade connecter to the yellow wire slot and the - to the black slot along with the black wire you disconnected from the plug onto the grey connector in the car ( it could be the other way around but i think i'v got it right ) , put your side lights on and all 4 rings should light up , press the break and you break bulbs should come on , then just check the rest of your lights , hazzards , revearse , fog .

Thanks mate,
Spent 10mins today rushing it before work but now my rear lights don't work!
Assuming it could be the relay as the everything else works when lights are on, checked all bulbs, fuses and still nothing... Joy

Yep this has been done. get a spare set of bottom lights and remove lens and replace on the top Cheers Tony and yes, that's what I was thinking of doing How good/orange are the indicators behind the red lens? I don't want any accidents or problems, with people claiming they didn't see me indicating.

Anyone else done this themselves yet? I should have time to attempt the wiring later or by Sunday anyway All leds are in, light units sealed back up, + and - wires from leds labelled, spade connectors bought. I just need to study the rest of the instructions now and get my head around which wire goes to where lol Any tips? Do's and don't's?

Orange is positive, black negative, leave the white wire. So where nismo has said this, I should ignore? use a electrical screw driver and remove the pins black and white wires and leave the orange wire in the plug from the back of the plug ,
put the white pin into the middle slot and do this instead: Remove the black and orange and leave the white and put the orange one into the middle slot instead of the white?

I didnt even take it out of the plug, I just cut and taped a few inches away from it.
leave the white one as it is. Below is info Jame5 sent me, might come in handy.
'Ok, first take the wires from both your led strips, split the first few inches. There should be one silver and one copper on each, take the silvers and twist together and do the same with the copper ones. Now test them to find out which is positive and which is negative (poke one in the plug going to the orange wire and poke the other in the black wire hole, if the leds don't light up swap them over). Now connect the the led wires to the wires going to the bulbs one to the black one to the orange. Check all the leds are working, they should be on with the side lights and get brighter with the brake lights. You can leave then like this but it makes it really difficult to see the brake lights. If you now snip the orange wire somewhere between the connector for the leds and the bulb your leds will stay on but the normal bulb will only come on when braking making it much more noticable'

how to - link to ebay for the led strip's - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-30CM-30-Red-LE...=item4cf118527c1. Get a flat headed screw driver and work your way around the rim slowly so you hear the glue crack it may take some time on the first one until you know how they come apart 2. Remove the lense and clean inside and clean the light reflector but don't rub to hard as you take the coating off 3. Cut the last 3 led's with a sharp knife from the strip but be very carefull 4. Insert the led strips with the led's facing toward the lense and they should be a snug fit so no need to glue , turn over and check they are still working on and 9v battery or battery charge but nothing over 12v 5. Put the wire threw the slit in the light housing and use super glue around the rim and glue back together , turn over and check they are still working 6. now for the wiring , you only need to use the wiring from the brake lights , open the grey plug and slide a thin flat headed screwdriver down the back of the plug to remove the black and white pins leaving the orange pin in the grey plug as you don't need to use this 7. Cut the led wires down to the right length and attach some of the wire you have cut off to the ends of the led wire + and - for power feeds for the leds in the bottom lights 8. Wrap the - from the leds around the black wire pin and tape up so you get no shorts 9. Get a spade connector and cut it down to the same size as the other pins and connect it to the + wire from the leds and tape it , you can also put some tape around the white wire pin so you get no shorting 10. Do step 1 to 4 the same for the bottom lense but you may need to cut 2 small pegs in the lense to make the led strip sit nicely 11. You will see that the housing had a divider that will need to be trimmed a little with a hacksaw so that the leds will fit over the devider 12. Put the wire threw the slit in the light housing and use super glue around the rim and glue back together , turn over and check they are still working 13. They are ready to fit in the car , black pin goes to black , white pin goes in the middle , the spade connecter from step 9 goes to yellow on the grey plug in the car , then connect the + and - wires from the bottom light leds to the wires that you left in step 7 for the power . 14. If your lenses are a bit dull use some compound and they will come up nice from too 15. Turn on the lights and see what a good job you have done for very little layout , if you do have any problems just PM me and i'll try and help you out Nismo ............ PS , thanks to Bosco for the idea

Lol, I'm not that brave and have waited all week to do this, as I need the car nearly every night. I won't be driving it in the dark until Monday night now, so have plenty of time to allow for mistakes, emergency posts on here and calls to nismo Nothing too bad can happen though anyway, only 12V A fuse or whatever may blow, but easily replaced and lights can easily be put back to normal working condition if led wiring, etc can't be sorted. Worth a try and if it doesn't work, I'll wait until I see someone competant enough to do it for me (nismo)

silly question but as explained in the how to and here - this installation with the wiring also followed - takes the normal lights (side and driving) power and feeds it to the led rings, that I get - but when the footbrake is pressed the normal brake filament section in the "normal" bulb will light up and the rings remain the same brightness .
or does the brake light bulb and the led rings also light up.
I am guessing the first right ? if so does the normal 2 filament bulb have to be replaced to only light when braking (single filament only bulb).
I have modded a set of lights and will be installing soon just wanted to ask as when I see pics and movs (thanks T) the leds are lit up but it does not look like the normal bulb is also illuminated.
can anyone shed some (sorry "light") on the question.
Originally I was looking to use the leds as side lights and have the top two light bulbs illuminate when braking.
any thoughts

Originally I was looking to use the leds as side lights and have the top two light bulbs illuminate when braking.
That's exactly what they do, if following nismo's how too Led's stay on as side lights all the time. Brake lights light up as they normally do, with the led sidelights staying on. No need to change the bulbs, I haven't. Led sidelights do not go off, until you switch them off. The 'normal' sidelights don't light up any more, as the led's have taken their place, but all other lights, light up as they do normally. Hope that helps?

Can somebody let me know how much they have been paying for this little mod? I just checked the eBay link and was surprised that two strips of 30 led's were over £100!!!

They are about 9-10 quid for each strip, so im not sure what you have been looking at! I thought Nismo posted up a link further up this page that takes you directly to the LED strips...

The leds that nismo linked to were £5.49 including p&p, for a pair, so as we need two pairs, total cost was £10.98. No way would I have paid over £100 for some led strips Either there's a mistake somewhere or the seller is trying to cash in on the sudden mass purchases.

Well, looking at the purchase history, the last set at the cheaper price were sold on Sunday. Maybe ask the seller if it's a mistake or why he's put the prices up massively. I mean, if there's a demand, then yeah, maybe increase prices slightly if you want to make the most of it, but those are £100 more expensive that the original price

That is exactly what I thought... A bit cheeky hiking the price up that much. Nobody in there right mind would pay that much for some LED strips! I have just sent an email to the seller asking exactly whats going on, so will let you guys know what his/her response is

They're currently out of stock and eBay won't let them cancel the listing so they've hiked the price to stop people buying. Price will return to normal once they have more stock.

Yea mine too - responses that is - same fom 11 sellers on eBay - all out of stock, piss that I had some and cut them too short. I have just bought some 48 length LEDs and will mod them failing that then I'll have to wait till uk stocks are ok again - gutted. 48 LEDs for 5.49 Gbp ain't too bad - I just hope they work after cutting down to 27 to fit the lense Ro00

We can sell these as 30 led strips 30cm long, or alternatively, they can be cut down to size.

Yea I had a set of 30 before sharp blade And it goes through like butter np.
I have been thinking about getting some 24 led Amber bulbs for the indicators and a White one for the reverse - and only leave the brake light as an original bulb - with the option to replace with led - should I get the urge, thanks for the kind words T - am just waiting now for more bits to turn up. In the mean time I'm preparing cabling in the looms ready for when the LEDs turn up. Was thinking or a smart clip type solution - like a Tamiya buggy battery connector - somethin like that ? As for cutting the lenses I used a dremmel - nice and quick - just had to keep a steady hand (and nerve) - quiet tricky with a 3rd old (assisting) lol
I'll post some pics once I finally get them in . - reminder always RTFM !!!! Or in this case the how to !!
Thanks for confirmation if the lights functionality - T

Well..... I was wondering about wiring some leds to the number plate lights, as one of my bulb holders has broken as they do and the other is bodged, as they are All I need now, is someone (nismo) to do a guide on putting leds in the black strip of the wing mirrors. As I have no side repeaters, I've wanted to do this for ages and did have a go a couple of years back, but the metal from the bulbs were shorting out on the metal in the wing mirror. However, now these leds have no wires or metal at the back and are encased, might be worth another go

You're going have to take the lenses back off mate to have a look. If you've cut them to close 3 won't work as they're grouped in 3's on the strip

They look nice Tony, although a shame about the leds that aren't working Everyone doing this has a power source! If you haven't got a battery charger to connect them to, them use the cars' battery. Split the wires and hold them on the battery, making sure they have good contact. If they don't light up, swap the wires around and they should then light up. While you're doing this, it's worth getting some masking tape, wrapping it around the wires and writing on which is + or -, to save time later on. I used a battery charger, but the cars' battery will work too

Theresa, I going to confess. I was being lazy and got carried away with putting them back together. The mod was so easy, it was the wiring I struggled with.
Lol, I know the feeling and am usually lazy too, but with the hassle of splitting the lens and cracking a couple of them, I kept making sure the leds were working , as I didn't want to have to do it all again I had to read through the wiring instructions a couple of times to get my head around it, but once I got started, I realised it was easier than I thought it would be.

hiya all,
sorry I gotta a K-nob question to ask, anyone got any pics of the wiring on the grey connector (other than the one nismo provided).
I have wired up the brake clusters and made a test last night (approx. past 1am) and the leds only came on when braking,
I have wired them as follows
Black wire in grey connector has the (neg) from leds connected.
White wire in the grey connector has the (pos) from leds
Orange wire - not touched or modded in any way.
I guess I need to re-wire the positive from the leds to the orange ??.
I did say a K-nob question.

spade connecter wire plugged into the yellow wire in the grey connector has the (pos) from leds
and you are plugging into the other side of the grey connecter from the car and not the lights ?

just the testing made it look kool, cant wait until both the brakes are in. just need to order some more 30 LEDs from ebay for the other lights (clipped the wire when cutting an LED strip) pants huh.
Nis..... great idea + how to chapper !!
brings the coop into the 21st Century regarding light tech.
All coop owners if you haven't done it yet - order the leds and get it done, you'll be proud of what you have done and the coop will make you smile "every" time you see it from behind (ohhh matron - fnarr fnarr)

thanks Edz, - TonyD - I also awaiting more LEDS from ebay to arrive, I have also ordered some 36 led (Red) bulbs for the brakes, and 24 led (Amber) led bulbs - want to see what they look like with the original lenses in might revert back to the original bulbs (see how that one works out) so I finished the brakes - rewiring - bit of sanding - siliconing the outter edge lip - bit of plastic polishing. not much though - install this AM before heading into work lol. Thanks Nis......
for the comments and the patience with my Q's lol
just need the others leds to arrive and will hack and slash the other lenses too.
I reckon I probably went OTT with the silicon and all but - I want them to have that original look remaining, Incase the 5-0 get interested and want to scrutinier my mods.

Thanks T - wiring sorted - me also happy - now working a way to wire the other lenses to the brake light power connections using the wiring loom casings. Less wires lurking the better
Edz - chap that looks way better than pink indicators - still I Look at yours and see mine - lol Looks nice mate !! are you still using standard bulbs for the others ? Brake reverse fog etc?? I have ordered some 36led bulb for the brakes and the 24 led bulbs for the indicators. Just gotta wait and work on the lower clusters. More cutting an glue glue glue. I think as soon as other coupers over here see them they will ask how and where to get lol .

Done mine as well, they look great. Cheers for the how to Nismo. The glue was a pain to get off. I found the lower lenses were a lot harder and nearly made me lose it trying to crack the glue! I will post some pictures up when its darker.
One question - To get the normal side lights to go out i.e. the centre of the ring is this a case of un plugging the orange connector?

if you unplug the orange wire from the grey plug from the lights you will just have the rings as side lights and not the normal bulb .

I removed the orange wire also so it just has the led's as tail lights and those lower lights were right to open chewed all the edge's up in the process but it was worth it for the look i might even drive it when its dark now. thanks Nismo for the bargain mod and links.

I just seen This Video on Youtube Is that the next step for anyone using this kit idea? I think it a great improvement. I can't say the same for one of the videos in the links showing you how to install audi R8 lights under the fogs.

I like the side and brake light being incorporated together. Not so keen on the indicators, look a bit cheap IMO. Also think the led reverse light is an excellent idea if you want all red rear lenses. The R8 LED front side lights are just terrible . If you were going to do this they would have to be fitted inside the fog lights some how.

i think its a nice touch to have the leds doing the side and break lights but it will push up the price of the install and the side lights will be very dull until you push the break .

I actually quite like r800's with just the top lenses done think that looks smart and in keeping it slightly original I may go down this route what do you guys think ? ... Dont get me wrong I think the double sets look awesome too but I like the look of just the tops at night very 599 lol.

Did mine at the weekend. Such a great (and cheap) mod. Thanks for the 'how to'.
However, all was going well until the last light, the right hand indicator/fog. It flipping cracked whilst trying to get the lens off. So annoying. After that I found an easier way was to use a junior hacksaw to go around the lens to break the glue.
Anyway, carried on an it looks awesome, and the crack isn't too noticeable but I will replace it.
I don’t suppose anyone has a spare indicator/fog lens knocking about? If not, off to eBay.
Cheers,
John

Right.
Dremel came out and i ran around the rim of the lens to free the glue.
Nothing.
As some of you may remember i made a set of LED lights from scratch a few years back and i had the same experience with them.
So... from 6 lens units ive tried to seperate ive had a total of zero come of easily.
A mod i wont be continuing with.

pfoe , did you try a flat headed screwdriver ( the longer the shaft the more leverage you get ) as i found this was the best way to get the lenses off .

I used a flat head, basically followed the guide.
I got there eventually but as a word of warning to others don't assume it will work flawlessly, whilst the mod looks amazing theres a very real chance you wil crack a lense

Cut the lenses using a Very New and sharp Junior Hack Saw, I chose this option after trying to do it with a Dremmel (that was far too messy and left gaps which needed multiple attempts with expanding glue.
Cover with Masking tape (lense protection on the offchance) Mark backing and lense (I made simple scratches - that no one would see) cut do your bits inside glue em back up I also siliconed mine too jobs a good un

A wee tip when cutting plastic lenses, you should heat them up with a hair dryer. This helps them from cracking.
I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time
