I think 3 days in I'm giving up and breaking the thing,
Results of the compression test are in and it's not looking good

10 8 8 10

In that order 1 though to 4 in psi

Won't see money back and I'm a little peed off to be fair as it supposedly had been rebuilt not long ago.

You will see a post in the breaking section later tonight when I have recovered from near heat stroke, workshop is like a green house

ooo You must be talking bar there... ~140 ~ 120 ~ 120 ~ 140 psi surely? else that thing would drive like a cruise liner.

Lol, I'm in two minds to run it as a second car till it dies or break it and recoup a little of the investment, its down by more than I'm comftible with.

There is nothing to say any thing jap I got wouldn't do the same

Sam, although the figures are somewhat low (that's if they are accurate), it's still a driver. Enjoy it for a while seeing as you have already shelled out a few quid. Have you checked the timing?

Might be worth chucking some de coking stuff in too.

I wished I'd had the part of my brain that still liked these cars removed

Just done a test with a little oil down the cylinders

12 9 9 12

All in bar, I know these test is relenent for some reason, I for the life of me cannot think why now lol

And now it won't fire, should the code light stay on at ignition or should it go out

Was 'Tom' honest enough about this Coupe? Have you made your opinions known to him, I know I would, what a horrid situation.

I took it for a test drive and I agreed to buy it, I can't have a crack at Tom for me not having the foresight to do a compression test there and then.
So as peed off as I am little good would come of taking it out on others.

I haven't talked to Tom as it's no longer his problem to be fair frown

Are there any adverse running issues that made you do the compression test?

I mean, if not, could be fine, who knows what their compression ratios are unless they've done a test.

I did it as I do with any coupe or fiat I buy so I have a good idear of health before I spend series money on bodywork or shiny bits.
The tick over is a little rough, that's about it, originally I put it down to plugs icv and dirty air filter, it could still be that to be fair

The 16 does seem to have a rough idle though, nowhere near as smooth as a 20

I have just cleaned the plugs and icv, earth points ect

Looking though history it's had big ends, hg, Pistonrings all on 2008 not many miles subsquntly.

Worn camshaft lobes won't cause low compression but they can cause a rough idle.

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.
I even unplugged my own.

Just checked, nothing wrong with cam lobs, I don't have a micromiter to check so it's very much by eye and feel but it looks "right"

Jesus Sam, that's a really bad break. I'm certainly not sh*t stirring, but is this something that just occurs instantly? Rough idle is something that I thought with your knowledge would be picked up when you went to look at it. Is this something 'slick fifty' or similar would mask....I'm only asking...you have already made it clear how you stand. I'm just interested on how thia was missed.

Toms a honest guy and iam sure if had any idea he would not of sold it.

We did have it in but just for a quick look a round and oil and filter change. It didnt run like it was down on compression.

Engine appered to run ok with no issues.

Sorry Sam, I was busy/distracted, should have explained the cam lobes was more to do with rough idle, but you'd see if there was bad wear.

Two cylinders, side by side, possible head gasket issue, but really we're just guessing without looking at it properly unfortunately.

Feel for you though.

May stump up the Beans and get it checked by fcss but there are no signs of hg failer.

I have checked 4 times now and in different orders, the centre 2 are defo down. Tick over doesn't sound bad at all, but you can feel it's not right though the car, as I said it's likely and possible the two are unrelated.

All in all I'm still not sure if I'll break it or run it though winter while waiting or the inevitable to happen

Bad luck your having! Definitely think on it as I'm with stan, it could be something simple as the two low cylinders are reading the same and side by side. Be a shame to see a coupe broken for bits. I wonder if the rings are coked up?

No Ross, with the stater motor going so soon, then the alternator dying, today was the farist it's been at a total of 10 miles. On the way home from buying it I kept it off boost.

I'd take it out and see how it performs. Best gauge of how you going to proceed.

As I'm sure you know, Joe will know for sure.

Could have a crack in the head gasket between the 2 cylinders.
