Obviously Dawkins has overlooked the homeofitness gene. Two million years ago it was useless in the struggle for survival and procreation, and so began a steady decline. Only when it had disappeared completely, leaving only a genetic memory, and incidentally the word 'procreation' had been misunderstood to mean 'pro-creation', did the suffering evolutionary strand make a staggering come-back.
