Question is in the title? My friend recently passed his driving test and without realising it I actually overtook him on the A1 (just after my crash) and my friend pointed out he knew me for his driving instructor to then completely SLATE my car. He said it sounded s**t (ok the manifold is blowing a bit but on the road its not bad) and said it looked s**t. Which annoyed me considering my friend said they didnt see the damage on the car and i'll admit it's not the best of the best but CERTAINLY not the worst. Then by sheer coincidence my friend did a parking manoeuvre round a coupe in Peterborough for his instructor to then slate the cars again. Ok he's learning car is a Ford and i personally dont like Fords (but wouldnt go that far) but its does annoy me when people completely slate the car and considering it was a friend of his pupil i find even more annoying. I dont know why it's annoyed me guess i just needed a rant. Rant over

I suppose this chap that recently passed his test has an amazingly fast and beautiful car? It was his driving instructor who was doing all the slating and no he has no car yet lol. Also the driving instructor has a diesel Ford Fiesta. Maybe he should get a slightly nicer car before he can bad mouth my own!

Its called Jealousy .... I think its due to the fact that most people have no idea what the car is and because of the way they look and sound automatically presume they're silly money. More the fool them I say

Small mindedness springs to mind. Some people feel they need to voice a negative opinion on everything just to get a hit of the 'attention' they feel they deserve for obviously being so much better...at everything.... Given the chance to actually drive the coupe i'm sure his negative opinions would start changing. My Dad hated my 16v, thought it was dreadful.. And then he drove it and completely ate his words!

There's nothing wrong with honesty. If he thinks it looks sh*t, then he can say so. I wasn't a great fan of the Coupe in the beginning I must admit. A drive in a modded one quickly shut me up and a few months later I sold my Civic Type R and bought my Coupe.

From my experience a lot of driving instructors are unhappy with their work. Not enough customers, fuel far too expensive, etc. Often that leads to negative instruction, and jealousy. Funnily enough I couldn't be happier as an instructor. With a diary full of customers, and a waiting list of people wanting my tuition. Plus I own a Coupe, which makes me and the rest of us on here a whole lot more classier.

I think that the coupe causing any reaction is great, something different that stands right out. Have had some amazing comments on the coupe's I've owned as a result of the looks and the noise.
Must admit i'm in complete agreement with Kayjey and think it's a little unprofessional of the instructor.

Boring people like run of the mill boring cars that have fuel economy before everything else. Then they can drone on about how many mpg they can get. Any other type of car is wrong. Performance cars are different. Most people that have a performance car know what it is like to have a boring run of the mill a to b car. They have individuality. This can show in their choice of car. When I had my 1st coupe, I think in 1998 or 99, I got comments all the time. She was either loved or hated. Once I had a mate of a mate who turned up in the pub. My car was outside. He slated her bad. After he had finished I let him know she was mine. I chucked him the keys and let him have a quick go. 20 mins later (not exactly quick) he came back very apologetic, saying how much of a great car she was When I saw my first Coupe it was love at first sight. No clue what it was though. Went past me a bit quick Would even of had one without the performance. Wife hated the look of her though. She loved her pink astra convertible she had at the time though

Given some of the comments posted on this site about other cars, I don't think there's any reason to expect that other people don't view the Coupe with the same disdain/contempt/dislike. Whether it is based on personal prejudice or informed judgement is pretty much immaterial. For what it's worth I've had 3 Coupes. I thought it was ugly when it came out, I think it's ugly now. However as a cheap(ish) performance package I think it's I find the prejudice against the Coupe tends to go once someone drives it. FWIW I've never driven a Scooby or an Evo, both leave me cold. Which would probably offend a Scooby/Evo owner.

In terms of design it's quite an extreme car, that alone will mean people either love it or hate it. The best selling cars usually have very 'safe' unoffensive designs (or just bland). It's great to have something that stands out. The fact people comment on it means it's interesting at the least, even if they do think it's ugly. I love the design though, always did. It does look a very odd from some angles, but absolutely stunning from others. I know some friends didn't like the looks that much, but all that have been in it loved the way it went and sounded. It's pretty odd though, I now drive an S2000 and almost all of the people I showed it to thinks it looks a lot nicer than my coupe. I personally think it looks ok, but is a tad bland. I think my coupe actually looked nicer. Guess that's just my coupe blinkers then

As per the Art thread Bangles Coupe design is said to be the first example of DeConstructivism in a car so bound to court controversy. Think Guggenheim! I was only thinking this morning how is it possible for manufacturers to launch such blatantly bland designs (as I was following the new Peugeot 508 SW)

Nothing wrong with a pink astra convertible.[1]
[1] This is a pre-paid announcement and may not reflect the views of the author. Wife drives her cars until fuel tank is empty. Then she drives mine and leaves me with hers if I am not there to stop her. Used to get stuck with a pink car frequently

To add insult to injury as it was the day of my crash i've found out when i texted my friend (considering he's a close friend) saying i'd had a crash he was coming back with his instructor to which he told his instructor, his instructor then went on to say "Text him back telling his car is s**t anyway" which my friend obviously didnt and thought it were quite rude..
I dont endorse keying peoples cars but sometimes......
