Bloody Ebay frown

For the last few days, I've been watching this very early 16v N/A and was ready to put a bid in.

Waited until 20 seconds before the end, typed in "512.34" - hit "Bid now" and got "you have logged out of Ebay - please log in" grr

The auction ended before I could log back in AND it went for £70 less than I was prepared to pay

Ar$e frown

It was exactly what I was looking for - a really early non-turbo that's probably good enough to spend some cash on to preserve it. I'd then have the two extremes of Coupe models - a perfect, standard, early model, and a highly-modded late one.

I'll have to find something else to spend the money on now...

Annoying isn't it! I've nearly broken my mobile trying to use it to bid in the last moments only for it to decide not to work.

Next time, have the item open in 2 windows. In 1 of them, enter your bid and wait on the next 'confirm' page until ready to submit your bid.

I was watching that one, merely out of interest too. Good job I was out all day, I'd have bid more yes

I thought about a 20v N/A, but I really wanted something that NEEDS to be preserved for the future.

I've always said that the base model will be the first to reach classic status, for two reasons - 1) There were less 16v N/A imported than any other and 2) because they were the base model, many non-enthusiast owners would simply scrap them when they got slightly ropey

The only other car I'd consider taking on to preserve is a very early LE, like the No5 that's currently on Ebay. The difference is that I don't have three grand to lash out - the 16v would have been on my drive for less than £500

I'm STILL miffed that Ebay logged me out for no good reason.... grr

Is this a case of "gamekeeper turning poacher" or just a Begbie wind-up?

I'd worked out that this MUST be an early dealer car, as it was registered in June 1995

It HAS to be worth preserving

never mind - another one will turn up cry

Don't worry chaps - Begbie hasn't bought the car - he was just trying to get me to bite - which I did, quite spectacularly (I rang him up to see if he'd sell it to me).

Still looking....

Its a shame Shortie's 16v is in Ireland - that might be another candidate, although I rather fancied a Broomie

I can't plan anything to do with Alexis' car, as the chances of it actually turning up are debatable. wink

Besides, the chances of my revenge waiting until the AGM are slim...

Having said that, due to my (ahem) more mature outlook on life, I might be prepared to wait for a loooong time before taking him down.

Either way, he's going to need to be watching over his shoulder.... tongue
