I have just witnessed what is possibly the worst case of dangerous driving ever!

Heading back to Carlisle on the M6 approaching Shap i noticed a sprinty catching me up at a fair rate of knots.
I was sitting just shy of 80 when he went past.

Nothing unusual about that you might think, considering the cars we drive?

Well, it wasn't til i noticed a young girl, 10/11 yr old in the front and a younger one in the back, and a fucking space saver on the n/s front that turned my face white and made my blood boil grr furious rage

He slowed down after a while obviously waiting for me to catch him so i backed right off but so did he. When he realised that i wasn't taking the bait he booted it again and disappeared pretty quick. By this time we were on the twisty section and i couldn't help thinking how long before that space saver actually melts or explodes.

It was a P reg, and that's all i remember unfortunately, but had a 3ft gouge from the middle of the passenger door to the end of the rear panel, no tailbox end pipe and only one sidelight working.

If you're on here, matey, hang your bloody head in shame.
If the few remaining brain cells you have left gave you the idea that i was actually going to chase you then you were sadly mistaken.
If you didn't have two young children on board i would have sacrificed a little scrape and performed a pit manouvre on you as that is what you deserve.

There is a stamped speed limit on those wheels for a reason and still can't it out of my head how anyone can totally disregard that and put umpteen people's lives at risk.

Take what's coming to you if the enevitable happens, it's a shame you might actually kill someone else in the process!!

Rant over but i ain't happy!

This is how it should have come out of Torino!

First time I across a coupé on road whilst on duty was to pull him in and warn him about speeding with a spacesaver fitted.....

Unfortunately my softly softly approach failed miserably and ten minutes later we were called to him and his mates lying upside down in a field.

Darwinism works!

Jeesh, what a numpty. I had to put the space saver on a few months ago after I had an O/S rear blowout on the M25. It was on for a week until I could get new tyres sorted out but in that time I never went above 50mph and that was only while driving back on the motorway where you have to make some progress at keeping up with the traffic flow. Some people have no idea though, they live in their own little bubble and if anything was to happen (god forbid) they would be the first one to moan and complain about their bad luck.

That's why they paint them in red and yellow with big warning stickers, I guess...

Guess you have to factor in 11 to 17year old rubber on those Space-Savers too.

I remember I put one on when my tyre blew out in Nottingham.

7hrs to get home playing chicken with lorries in the inside lane a 50mph. One of the worst journeys I've ever done as I was so worried about the tyre all the way up. Can't believe someone was doing 80 on one of those.

Those tyres actually can take a serious beating with regards to temperatures, but the big problem is traction and grip.

I have to admit I tested a spacesaver up to 120 mph on my Punto HGT. On an old airfield. When I tested the grip doing 50 though, I think I got to 2,5 x 360° spin so I decided to call it a day.

More amazingly... those spacesavers offer enough clearance for the Brembo's. Can you actually get better rubber to put on them? I would like to see someone do a top speed run on them - 1/3rd the wind resistance of 225's I'd guess.

The ludicrous thing was that it started teeming down with rain when he took off, absolutely insane if you ask me.
After 30yrs of driving I'm a pretty good judge of speed and he was well past 100 at times.

Just hope he's not a forum member as I'll have a few choice words to say to him if I ever meet the idiot again!

I don't mind having a play like any other car nut but there's a time and a place and when conditions allow, this certainly wasn't it.

If anyone does see it on it's roof somewhere, just check for kids, the rest you can leave to the foxes!
