Good Looking / Decent engine and Ooomph / Italian / Coupe-rear seats. Admittedly the Brera would be nowhere near as practical and much thirstier.

Well I think I would rather have a coupe that has had money no object spent on it and just won the concourse at auto italia rather than a 1k nail any day!

Um, one question?

Why are you all claiming that *any* coupe is priced too low?

The higher the advertised price for coupes - irrespective of condition - the better for all owners.

- better chance of a decent payout if some lout drives into us, instead of an automatic write-off.
- better chance of money having been spent on it (though no guarantee, of course).
- more point in *us* spending money getting a car fit, rather than scrapping it because a belt change costs more than the car is nominally worth.
- better residual values.

The coupe - any model - is a high performance car which is both attractive and rare. It's a thing worth having - yet the bizarre UK used car market insists on treating even a concourse winner as a dog.

We should be pushing for the highest prices we can get, not grouching that it's not worth it.

Great post Neil, I concur 100%. Us owners will be paying buyers to take them away at this rate frown

The fact you can buy a car for the price of 4 tyres is just dreadful. Something is very wrong with the economy over there. But I personally can't complain about prices for new parts (import from the UK) when the Pound has dropped by 40% over say 5-6 years.

Now £7k might sound much for a 10 year old Fiat, but IF it's in the condition it looks like... it's still cheap. Would fetch around £11k over here... with the steering wheel on the correct side.

This is the problem with most Italian sports cars or GT cars. I was looking at Maserati 3200Gt's the other day (seems a nice Coupe alt.) and the price of these have dropped so much, almost to 8k (2000 year). That car has one advantage in my view, the badge. (and possibly the 4.2 V8 Twin turbo tongue )

I would love to see this Coupe sell for 7k, and completely agree with Neil on this one. This will be better for all of us.

Hi all,

This is my car. Thanks for the positive comments. Just to clarify, yes this was Scooby's car and yes it holds 3 bar oil pressure even when hot.

This has been a cracking car and is a very reluctant sale, after all the time and money spent it will be sad to see it go but it isn't my only concours Italian car.

Also with a very young family this car is not the most practical and I simply don't have the time for 2 garage queens!

Cheers
PJ

all i can say is i hope PAJ gets as much as he can for his car, its a stunner and is truley mint.

when i saw what my coupe was up against at Stanford hall i said straight away... ive lost.

if there is a minter modle, step forward!!

this coupe is worth every penny, does not need a penny spent on it, and tbh, i think PAJ has put the car down a bit.

its a lot better than what he has stated.

any one that went to brooklands will see that.

i hate seeing these cars sell for bugger all.
Just makes the car easy to afford for carless drivers which will make insurance go up and the wright off value cheaper.
which is just nothing but bad news.

I would dare say that a coop that has a proper sorted 400hp+ engine, completele revised suspension and brakes, as well as immaculate bodywork; would be worth even more.

My mum just paid 8K for a VW Beetle 2004 model that had done 9k.. its was absolutely mint.

We should all put prices up if we are selling, except to forumers ;-)

I mean the Integrale is going for 15-20k..what a joke!!

But that's the same for *any* car.

And in this case, things lurk around the corner because someone thinks, hmm, thousand quid's worth of work needed? I can't flog it for that... and so it's on ebay, no reserve, and still needing the bloody work.

Luck has nothing to do with it. Spend the money, and go for one that's provably had the work done.

I think thats a good point Neil, but I have in the past been quite vocal on the subject of Coupe prices.

For example, An LE, or a Plus, regardless of condition, carries a higher sale value than a 20VT.

Now, just because a car carries the LE or Plus tag, does not for a second mean that it is better or will be less expensive to maintain etc.

All the 20VT variants are 99% the same, all barring a few bits of glam here and there.

And - look at 16 prices! Even a 'mint' 16 would fetch at the most £1k, how criminal is that?

The reason being, because you can go and buy a 20VT for the same money, probably for a reason dont get me wrong, ie needs work, high miles, tatty paint etc.

Its a tight rope with these cars - I bought mine with all the jobs done, paint immaculate, mildly modded etc, and ended up having to have almost all the big jobs done again shortly after buying it (most due to the car having been butchered by a supposed specialist...) so if i bought another Coupe, i would prefer to buy one that does need work doing, at a lower purchase price, get the work done myself, and have a sorted car at the end of it.

The re-sale value on any Coupe will be far, far less than the money you will have spent on it in your ownership, and far less than it is really worth to be honest.

Sad times indeed.

I totally agree with this, and is exactly what I done. Buying the car from Joe that was probably worth £1400-£1800 and then getting all the other work done UP FRONT, so that I know nothing needs done.

Peace of mind is a rare feeling in a coupe, but I genuinely don't worry when I get in.

There is a couple of niggles, but for 12yrs old, I really can't (and don't laugh ) complain.

Ross

Hmmm, you wait till yours hits the 'teenage years'.

Mine is the typical 14 year old teenager, loud, expensive, always wanting something, never satisfied, has the occasional tantrum, goes through shoes very quickly etc.

Lets hope adulthood brings better things wink

That's exactly what I did when I bought mine. I had the budget fot a "Mint" Coupé but chose to buy one that was due it's first cam belt etc. I saved over £2k and got the car how I wanted it.

If you always buy a car on condition and not its inflated history file and suggested provenance you won't go far wrong wink

As for prices..... I really couldn't care less. I bought my Coupé because I liked it not because I wanted a future cash cow. Nowadays there are so many great cars selling for peanuts and by the same token so many old nails demanding silly money.

If someone wishes to pay high prices for Fiat Coupés then good on them. One thing for sure though. If I could get what I paid for my Coupé back in 2004 it would be gone frown

Hi all,

Have dropped the asking price of the car to £6500 after little response. If there are no takers will seriously consider storing the car for a while to enjoy later!

Cheers
