You can still cancel bids without bidders consent - you just need to state a reason on the cancel form.

Do that, add a reserve, and your back to the start smile

You can also block that member from bidding on that or any of your future auctions - well you used to be able to, I havent had to do it for about 5 years

You made a mistake in your listing and then get angry because someone wouldn't retract their bid? Lol.

If I saw a bargain on ebay for 99p and bid on it, I'd also be unhappy if the seller asked me to cancel my bid!!

Just end the auction early if you can't cancel that bid!

On the flip side, high-value auctions that start at 1p attract a lot of interest and in some cases go for a higher price than if it was a fixed price buy-it-now, probably due to bidding wars between interested parties.

Definitely. I tried selling a laptop once that I bought secondhand for 500. Didn't make the 400 reserve. Relisted it at 1€ and sold it 5 days later for 700.

I am stunned how often second hand stuff on ebay sells for more than what it would cost to buy it NEW. Then again that happens on here quite a lot too shocked

Absolutely Bob, it's easy to get carried away in a bidding war - it's always worth doing some homework so the value of an item can be established up-front.

yes, I think the perception is (or was) that eBay can offer substantial savings of second hand goods compared to new.

There are times i've seen when the amount of an item has ended just below the RRP and by the time you put p&p on, it's at the RRP!

I think times have changed for eBay, it is no longer seen as a bargain bin any more and sellers are continually being squeezed on fees, price rises for sellers will be in effect by mid July. No listing fees but a 10% ebay fee on the value of most items across the board (to a max of £40), combined with a Paypal fee of around 5% is a massive increase to how it used to be.

I agree with what's being said here. Some people get carried away on eBay right enough, & it's only too obvious there doesn't seem to be the bargains that used to be.

Stating the glaringly obvious, do a bit of homework on prices in general, before you commit to buy that item that you realy need laugh .

I have sold a fair bit in the past but now its only a trickle every now and then, to see if someone wants something before it goes to the dump.

Mainly because i dont think (even taking into account the national coverage) that Ebay's 10% commission is comparable to the service that they provide a seller.

And any disputes for compensation etc (never happened yet to me) is based on ebay opinion rather than fact.
I'm sure they would come unstuck if someone took them through the courts under the unfair contract terms and conditions legislation.

Hopefully one day soon we will see Ebid sorting out their presentation a bit better than it is now and I shall be hopping off to them in a flash.

Funny but having now been on the receiving end of your scatter brain approach to selling, I have no misapprehension of who the "NO#" was rolleyes

I seem to recall that once you have placed it for auction and a bid has been made, a contract exists...

I really struggle to accept that you have problems understanding the words "I'll take it" & "Send me your details so I can pay you"

Clearly in "your world" these words mean don't trust the forum moderator and former club board member, he is clearly the kind of bloke that will stiff me!!
