Hi,

I've been troubled with pretty poor reception since I got the car four years ago and now I finally decided to look into it.

Took down the upper rear quarter panel in order to to do a bit of fault finding regarding the amplifier for the rear screen antenna. After realizing that I've been tearing down panels on the wrong side, I managed to get to the amplier located on the OTHER c-pillar.

I looked on the connectors to the screen but everything seems fine. I pull out the coaxial cable and all the other connectors except ground connector which has some kind of devilish type of connector which I couldn't find a way to disconnect (it looks as if the tab that you are supposted to press on is caught on the wrong side of it's support, making it impossible to release...)

Anyhow, I start to look at everything and all connectors seem fine, the connectors to the rear screen look like they should and to forth. In order to try to see what difference the amplifyer does, I disconnect it. And get no change what so ever! Even disconnecting the coaxial cable doesn't do a difference to the reception.

I measure the voltage of the current from power cable originating from the head unit and get a reading of 11.5V when I connect it voltmeter ground cable to one of the body screws holding the arial amp in place.

I have no clue as what to do next, as I'm not the best at this kind of stuff. Any ideas?

Tried disconnecting the cable connected to the wires in the screen this morning in an area with rubbish reception (being parked in a parking garage).

The reception actually became better. Very odd.

There are generic ones available at the average audio shop.

Not giving up just yet!

Any idea where the ground is located for the amplifyer? The cable is disappearing into the c-pillar.

Probably boot. The workshop manual should give a definite answer.

Took another look in the workshop manual, realized that what I've been refering to as the ground is the rear windscreen heater ground. The ground for the amplifier is in fact the bolt and bracket connecting it to the c-pillar.

I found some fault finding ideas in the work shop manual, measuring the resistance of the some of the parts. I will give it another go tonight.
