Anyone know please where to source the corrugated rubber sleeves / covers that go on the end of various electrical connector plugs within the engine bay? Things like the rubber sleeves to the headlamps and to the brake fluid resevoir. The majority are falling apart and look pants cry.

Spent the weekend cleaning up the engine bay but took things a little far after finding some rust albeit surface. God knows how I think I'm going to put it together again rolleyes...

Most of the connectors are Tyco/AMP types. The housings, pins, seals, and covers are individually available from places like Farnell or RS, and from some of the vehicle cabling supply houses. The problem is that it is necessary to remove and remake the existing connector to fit the covers properly - they're the first thing that goes on when you make the connector. That's going to cut off at least an inch from each cable, and some simply won't reach.

It might be possible to cut the old ones off, split the new one carefully, and fit around the existing connector and either superglue or self-amalgamating tape the bits together.

...or just use short pieces of self-amalgamating tape to seal the splits in the rubber boots

Problem is the boots tend to split into a series of rings.

Actually, thinking about it, a boot split along its length and fastened on with a couple of small tiewraps might do the trick.

Thanks guys. Mental block over where to get them so appreciate the input. I might try spliting and supergluing new ones and then maybe some of the brush on rubber insulating 'tape'.

The part numbers for the boots for the most common size AMP connectors (e.g. the widget connector, the headlight connector etc) are, as far as I can find out:

880810-1 - two pin connectors
880811-2 - three pin connectors
493581-1 - four pin connectors

Can't find anything for the five or six pin connectors. They're all Tyco parts - http://www.te.com/catalog/bin/TE.Connect?C=10876&M=FEAT&P=&U=&BML=&LG=1&PG=2

Mouser carries some of them. I was mistaken about RS and Farnells; they only carry the connectors and pins.
