I seem to have lost my wheel locking nut and need to get the wheels off as I'm running dangerously low on my front brake pads. It's after market locking bolts so the fiat one won't fit. I've had a tool machined to try and remove these bolts, but to no avail and the removal tools you can buy on the net are rubbish apart form the proper ones costing over £150. Does anyone one here in the London/Surrey area have any means to remove a wheel locking bolt? I will of course pay towards petrol and a few beers, but I'm really stuck.

the locking wheen nut removers work well i thought as long as u hammer them on enough also could try using easy outs if u fancy drilling them yourself i did this on a saxo take a bit of time but cost about £3

If it's at all possible for space you can weld a bolt on to the nuts.
I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

If it's at all possible for space you can weld a bolt on to the nuts. It's not unfortunately. I don't want to damage my alloys. I'm going to take it to another garage in the morning and see if they can help.

I've got McGard locking bolts in mine.
How I lost that key is beyond me!!
You think your turbo sockets would work on these Marco?

I've had these off many times before and I'm sure they don't spin. I tried the Halfords reverse thread jobbies. They caught when banged on with a hammer, but wouldn't grip enough to actually remove the bolt.

chisel the outer shell off or as said drill its easier with easy outs as u drill a small hole then thread the easy out in these work very well as the harder you tur clockwise the tighter it fits in and turns the nut anti at the asame time

I don't have the time Flea. After I get these out, I will never bother with locking bolts again.
Bloody things.

see if anyone nearby has a Dynomec kit ( used one at work ) did the business EVENTUALLY on my E class. Be wary of drilling, as this makes it worse, as you harden the steel even more sometimes !! ( unless you use a REALLY good bit, not that HSS shit. Stellite / TIN, but even they will struggle ). If you can heat it up, you may get it started, but it all depends on how much you value the alloy wheel attached to it !! been there, done it, what a nightmare ! 1st port of call would be to buy a NEW key & really hammer it in & try that 1st !!

I had the rotating portion of my mcgards welded then used a chisel, an impact drive and hey presto.
Took a while though!

I can't get near the bolt to weld anything on as it sits quite deep in the alloy, and I don't want to knacker my alloy.

Well I've finally managed to get these bastards out!!!!!!!!!!!!
After visiting 4 garages that hummed and harred, I took it to the garage that did my MOT.
The guy came out with a turbo socket(thanks Marco) and took all 4 locking bolts out in less than 10 minutes.
I'm so happy.
Death to all locking nuts/bolts!!!

Bloody things. It looks to me that they were doing exactly what they were meant to do and doing it rather well judging by the hassle you had getting them off...... Lesson here is don't lose the bloody keys!!

Not really. With the right tools they came off in no time. I'm sure a thief would have all the right bits.

Won't have locking wheel nuts anywhere near me now. I spent £190 a year ago getting 2 siezed wheel nuts (the ones with the collars) off a vauxhall frontera. After being quoted silly money by main dealer I bought some turbo nuts and impact drivers and had a go myself - and probably made it worse. Then took it to a local indi garage who claimed they could do it and who subsequently spent 3 days breaking various removal devices of theirs and in the end resorted to a cold chisel to cut them out (together with chucks of the alloys). 3 months later the head gasket went (probably not connected despite the violence inflicted) and had to sell it for little more than scrap in any case. How I hate cars.
