I've followed the how to, got everything done however I couldn't get the old chip out, I don't have a chip extractor.

Does anyone have some tips on how to prise it out without damaging it, I've tried the paperclip trick as well.

Adam

I use a very very small screwdriver. Don't worry, no damage

Yes, a very small screwdriver or awl works fine. First prise it up slightly from 1 corner, then a little more from the diagonally opposite corner, then back to first point and it should lift out.

BTW make sure you're only trying to prise the chip out of the socket, not the entire chip and socket off the board... don't laugh, i've seen it done. wink

Lol

Is it possible to damage the board below the chip if I'm a bit too ham fisted with the screw driver?

Yes, if you push the screwdriver down into the board, but there's no need for any downwards force at all so if you're careful it'll be fine.

All done!

Used a small nail as it happens.

All running ok after a test drive, although not as much of a difference in power when I evo chipped my 16vt.

It does pull all the way to the redline.

Cheers gents!

16vt works with very low boost (0,8 bar) increased a lot (1,2 bar) by uprated chips like Novitec. 20VT has a smaller crappy turbo which works at 1 bar increased to 1,2 by chip. It's normal that there is not a very big difference. If you have FMIC and open exhaust, you can try the Gtec2. It has more advanced ignition and is more brutal
