Forged or standard engine? Updated cylinder head or standard?

It is a turbo that really requires the pistons/rods to be forged before it can really be used to its full potential. This completed with full supporting mods, it should make 375-460bhp depending on dyno and natural engine variations.

You could of course fit one to a standard car and simply have it safely mapped to make a 290bhp LagMaster6000...

350 bhp because much more than that you'l start testing the engine internals unless you go forged.

nigels speck is the one to look at for mods for the gt2871r

what turbine size? - 0.64AR or 0.86AR

0.64 will give around 400bhp - 0.86 will give around 450 (all with LOTS of other supporting mods, obviously)

If you don't want to go the expense of forged internals, there's not a lot of point in going for such a big turbo - Leighton at FC Performance would be happy to advise you

the gt2871r comes with a variety of compressor wheel trims as well 48, 52 and 56 which will further influence how the turbo performs

as pointed out how much have you got to spend on the car as using a turbo that big to its full potential will require a forged engine, uprated clutch, fuel pump, mapping etc, i.e. lots of money

also consider that the car will drive quite differently as well in that you will lose a fair bit of low down performance, personally unless you are going to spend all the money on going forged i will stick to something like an gt28rsr as you can use that turbo to it's full potential on stock internals, even a gt28rs can be pushing it on stock internals

a lot of folk get hung up on the bhp numbers, personally i would be far happier with a broader spread of torque and sacraficing some bhp which in everyday driving will make the car feel faster, Nigel's car has been extensively modified with headwork so merely strapping on the same turbo will not give the same results in terms of driveability and torque spread

and on a completely unrealted note, it's my 1000th post, how exciting lol

i saw the gt2871 as a future thing as in i can use this on standard internals and when i go forged then i wont have to fork out another £900 odd pounds on another turbo

I think you should see how much the standard internals can take. wink

That does not make a lot of sense IMO - if you want to go forged, then do the lot at once.

If you want an upgrade on stock internals then go for a hybrid for over 300bhp - it wont cost that much, is a standard fit, and will sell on easily when you want to go bigger.

I was thinking a GT2871r is almost wasted on standard internals and especially with the big housing, will be much less drivable than an RS or RSR that you can use to its full potential.

Guys have run GT30's on stock internals and at over 400bhp for a while before the engine went bang.

Then there's the sprinty flea mapped with a 2871r on stock internals at around 400bhp. And that's still going strong as far as I know.
