They are not cheap, On ebay a Apexi electronic boost controller AVCR is about 280GBP have a look here

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Apexi-AVCR-ele...1QQcmdZViewItem

Don't know much about the blitz but expect it is similar

I think they recommend getting them set up by a professional but in saying that I think there used to be a fitting guide on the forum somewhere.

From the listing

"The AVC-R also uses a highly durable, fast action solenoid valve to physically control the boost . The valve movement (Boost Duty Cycle) can also be modified. Raising the duty cycle increases boost response, while lowering the duty cycle will slow boost response. This feature allows boost response adjustment for varying turbo sizes. Since larger turbos take longer to spool up ( bad low end response) the duty cycle should be raised under lower RPM's for better response. The opposite should be done for smaller turbo's ( excellent low - mid range response, but limited top end power.) A'PEXi engineers address this issue by including extra menus for RPM based boost control. Drag racers may want to utilize the Gear based boost control function. Aside from the basic functions above, the AVC-R has a Start Duty Setting (allows the boost to momentarily overshoot according to gear)."

Hope this helps but others have far more knowledge than me.

will try to explain a bit more fully but I would wait until one of the experts replies as i'm not 100% sure.

A electronic boost controller is a "good to have" not a "must have". The EBV on the coupe will do the job I think but the boost will be less accurate, could go up and down a fair bit. Things like how the boost spikes a bit or drops off at higher RPM. The electronic one should control the boost much more accurately and mean you get a better stable pressure and it shouldn't spike.

The Apexi AVCR uses modulated solenoids or stepper motors to regulate boost. These controllers offer a much sharper (crisp) wastegate action and boost control and mean boost control is much more accurate.

The apexi can (to my knowledge) allow different boost levels in each gear and as per my last email different duty cycles. Of course you can also adjust the boost from inside the car while driving. The Greddy version I think has a steering wheel mounted button that allows you to run low boost in the first 2 gears to mean less wheelspin and then you press the button for extra boost in later gears (mainly for drag racing) these are some of the advantages over manual boost controllers.

The standard EBVs aren't very good at controlling the boost. Sometimes boost can be erratic, peaking or unstable levels.

PRV or electronic boost controller you can exactly what you want. Reduce overboost or turn it up a little (but not too much!...)

Just to add to that

With an Electronic boost controller if you set it to 1.3bar you should get 1.3bar all the time, and more or less exactly (assuming the turbo is up to it)

With the standard or manual BC's items set to 1.3bar you may get 1.2bar or 1.4bar for example.

Chris, what boost level is the Gtech providing you with?

You may only get marginal gains with another form of boost control, it depends how the Gtech is controlling it.
Certainly with the Novitec chip (of which the GTECH is based upon) a PRV or electronic boost controller bought boost in sl. quicker and held it better to the redline

Again, like so many others, you've missed a vital part of making a car go faster........

making the car go slower - I would look at brake upgrades next.

Also, you don't say what car you have but maybe a strut brace, recaro seats and maybe a coilover kit as well.

But seriously I would consider slowing down you next priority.

thanks mate ,...
but i have already upgrade the brakes with a 4pot kit out of a ferrari maranello 550 with 345mm discs!
the car is a coupe plus,so recaros, strut brace, are standerd, suspension,is fixed with bilsteins gr.n, apex, and also a big rear brake kit with 285 discs.
powerflex silent blocks,
and so many other tuning parts,
thats why i focus on the performance tuning.....

Ah Ok, you didn't say in that case a boost controller and aquamist must be the only parts you don't have yet

Someone more technical can better anwwer this, but generally, I think, it reduces the inlet charge temps by injecting water - you may find it useful due to the higher temps in greece as well

aquamist

Definately aquamist if you get a custom map. You could run higher boost with the extra cooling but if you get it mapped you can run a few more degrees of advance and gain quite a bit of power.

You could get a PRV from Cosmograph on the forum I belive.

The only thing I'd suggest is that the Cosmograph PRV (from memory) only allows boost up to 1.3 bar, and I would have thought that with all of Chris's mods he would be able to run 1.4 bar. No point spending all that money if he's not going to run the highest possible boost !!

Someone correct me if this boost level is not advised, as that's what I want to run soon. FWIW I'll be in the same boat in a month or so, but the cost of boost controllers make my wallet go into spasm

thank jayell, but i wouldnt be running more than 1.3 bar i think!
so prv from cosmo suits me!
however,if not satisfied with it,i ll start saving for an apexi super afc-r,since my lasts mods+christmas presents my money is 0,001 euro!
