Anyone tried this brand?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xenon-Hid...cles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bdab903d

Seems ridiculously cheap and the ballasts look very nice and small. I'm thinking it's worth a punt for £22.

Excellent. Ordered and should be fitted this sunday, weather permitting.

Any suggestions on where to mount the ballasts? I'd prefer it to be completely reversible. i.e. no drilling or tigerseal - I really loathe that stuff.

Mounting will be tricky without screws, i used small self tappers which shouldn't leave to much damage behind. You may be able to do something creative with cable ties. There are several options on position, i have two sets (main and full beams) underneath and on the side of the lights, check out the 'how to'. Why would you want it to be reversible?

In case the kit is crap and I immediately take them off laugh

They arrived today.

Fitting took about an hour and a half (despite the drizzle) including the trip to B&Q to get some self tappers and repair washers (I gave in and mounted the ballasts up the side of the lights with a couple of small holes into the bonnet where it's double skinned).

All in all not a badly made kit; the wiring looks good and the connectors are fine but the mounting brackets are a little flimsy. For £22 delivered what do you expect though?

At first I thought I'd been had as neither side worked, but it turns out the connectors to the ballast can be fitted backwards...poor design...nothing to do with me missing the polarity labels. Now they're working though.

Wow, even in daylight the difference from the original lights is striking. I went for 4300k so the colour is very much standard but the intensity is much greater. Just waiting for it to get dark before I give them a proper test.

I was a little worried as the drivers side went out when I closed the bonnet. A quick reconnect of the wiring sorted that so it was probably just a loose connection. The passenger side went out when I started the engine the first time. It came back on when I turned the lights off and on and despite my best efforts with the high beams, the ignition and every possible combination of turning things off and on the problem hasn't recurred.

So far I'm pleased...touch wood...I'll update when I've spent a little time driving with them.

Wow these are great at night. Had a quick blast up some country roads which were quite bumpy and nothing has come loose or broken.

I'm seriously considering getting some for main beam, though the few seconds to warm up does concern me and I'm not sure where I'd put the second set of ballasts.

Jame5, do you have a photo of where you mounted yours on the underside of the lights? I'm concerned they may foul the induction tubing on the passenger side. Is yours a 20vT too? Don't the screws protrude into the headlamp housing so they are visible when you look into it? Or with short enough screws don't they go all the way through the housing? How short do they need to be?

Also, how do you find the warmup time on the main beam? Annoying?

Sorry for all the questions.

They are the 35w ballasts. I've got 35w ones on my car and they're rubbish at night!!

The 55w ones are the way forward.

You're right, they are better than the standard ones. Hell, anything is better than the standard ones!

It's just not very good when it's very dark IMO.

I decided against a second set for the mains. Too long to warm up. So my Osram Nightbreakers should be delivered tomorrow.

I know!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XENON-HID...cles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ad4d494c1

Spot the difference apart from the different sticker on the ballasts...and the £100 price tag obviously.

OK so they're "45-50W" but still, £78 difference? Not sure I'd be happy with a 10% range of uncertainty on the wattage either.

Just so you know Frary; these particular HIDs will kill your adjustment motors unless you disconnect them.

The electromagnetic field generated by the high voltage needed to start the HID bulbs fries the microchip in the motors apparently. They killed mine within a day.
