I'm not sure if centre dash is the right term - I'm talking about the slab of black plastic that runs from the stereo housing up and has holes in for the heater controls.

The left-hand inside edge of mine by the stereo hole is pretty tatty and I was thinking about replacing it. I'm guessing that it would be easy enough to buy a tidier one from somebody who's breaking their coop, but I was wondering if there were any options for replacing it with something that looks a bit nicer.

Has anybody ever looked at getting a bodywork coloured metal one made? I know a couple of people who make a hobby of metal-work, so I was thinking of talking to one of them. However, I'm not a very artistic person, so I'd welcome any thoughts on how people think it would look.

Just refurb it yourself look in the how-to section then you can spray it a colour of your choice or carbon fiber effect vinyl to stick on it .

Or if you cannot be botthred just buy another one the possibilities are endless.

Is a resprayed plastic one likely to be a good colour match for the metal trim? Like I say, I'm not very artistic.

I prepared mine and then got a paint shop to spray it sprint blue. Nice results

I've just refurbed the one in my porto - then painted it satin black.

Its a bit tedious getting all the old gunk off, but not too hard.

As for matching the paint - yes and no.

Even the dash strips will have faded, and new paint in the same colour code will look 'new' against 12,13,14 year old Fiat blow over.

You don't happen to have a picture do you, just so I can see what it looks like?

Thanks. Turns out I don't like it as much as I thought I would, but the gloss black looks lovely. I think I have a way forward.

Too blue for most but I like it.

Think the metal route is a not an option.
Easier to strip and use the rubberised paint or a colour of your choosing.
Been abit of talk about this recently.
I set myself a project, mainly to try out a mold making material I have not used before. It's similar to what I have used for TVR parts so hopefully results will be good. The finished console will be in carbon fibre.
