Hi all, I have been reading about the many and diverse mods you all have to your coupes. I was wondering, if the standard coupe gets from 0 to 60mph in about 6.2 seconds, how long does it take for the 300 and 400 bhp monsters to get to 60 mph. Every one is talking horsies, but what does that equate to down the tarmac?
Cheers

The Coupe(modded) isn't very quick off the line, but once you're rolling there's very few cars that can keep up.
It's not the 0-60 that's exhilarating, but how quick you get up to speed afterwards... for me at least.

Well, a couple of us were at York Raceway over the weekend doing some 1/4 mile times. If you go in one of the lanes, it actually times your 0 - 60mph. I seem to remember that MattM did a 5.98 to 60mph (he is just remapped) I did a 5.5 to 60mph (435bhp), but I couldn't launch for crap, JBT managed a 5.2 to 60mph (450 odd bhp) and Sherlock managed a 4.65 to 60mph (450bhp)
So as you can see, if you get the launch wrong, you get a bad time.

0-60 is not a strong point for Coupes, although the figures would suggest otherwise. The problem is that the higher the power figure, the harder it is to get a good time, as the margin between bogging down or spinning up gets narrower.
For me, the better measure of a Coupe's prowess is a rolling start - for example 30-100, or even 30-130.
If you're going to measure a standing start, do it over a longer distance, such as a quarter mile, where the terminal speed is a very good measure of power.
100mph terminal on a quarter is achievable with an almost-standard car. 300bhp will get you up to 107-ish. 350bhp should see you break 110mph and 400+ should see you close to 115mph (bearing in mind this is as fast as a Ferrari 360 Challenge, a TVR350 and a Noble M12)

You totally let the side down there Begbie. >Feel the shame!< Were those times on road tyres? Thanks Mine and MattM were on road tyres, JBT was on track tyres as well as letting air out of the tyre. No idea on Sherlock as he turned up as I was leaving

Quoted 0-60 times on any car are largely bullshit anyway, and frankly not at all relevant to how you normally drive a car. How often do you perform a high rpm, clutch drop, redline thrash away from a standing start? Not often I'll wager. Besides, as posted above, being FWD the Coupe regardless of what its BHP figure is, will always struggle to grip from a standing start. Much more relevant tests should be 20-60, or 30-100 etc. I still find it hard to believe a standard Coupe really could do 0-60 in 6.2 secs - you could have a damn good go at it, probably take you all day, and ruin your clutch in the process, but you might get there I suppose. Lest we all forget as well, the quoted 0-60 times of any car, is apparently with 2 people, and IIRC 15KG of luggage... Interesting.

Our 0-60 times will never really be anything to shout about, but our 60-100 times are pretty impressive, even as standard (8.5 secs by the way). A new age Impreza STI covers 60-100 in 8.7 so it goes to show that , while 2 seconds seperate the 0-60mph times on these cars, once rolling the Coupe's can mount an impressive charge.

I know what it's like driving in Sydney Apogee...traffic light bursts is a large part of driving around town with few chances to really use the Coupe's strengths other than long stretches of roads like the M5 or F3. Unfortunately no matter how much you mod the Coupe (within reason) you will never get the jump on the Aussie V8's or turbo AWD's off the line if they are feeling sporty!

I used to do standing starts between lights with my Civic Type R all the time. It is a great car to launch with and very few cars could keep up in 1st and 2nd.
With the Coupe however, I never do it as it's very heavy on the clutch and the car is just rubbish at it!

Mine and MattM were on road tyres, JBT was on track tyres as well as letting air out of the tyre. No idea on Sherlock as he turned up as I was leaving I was running on yokohama ao48's @ 25psi, I cant get the power down in second gear with normal road tyres.

Cheers My coupe did it in 4.7 seconds at York but online is said 5.2,and thats with wheelspin in 1st and second. A second isnt a huge gain considering the money it costs to get there. On the tarmac the difference is night and day. Stock coupe for reliability, modded for fear. And freeing up space in your wallet of course.
