As I have never broken any car before, if I break my coupe (decision still pending wink ) I would like some advice on how do do it as such.

i.e. is there a specific 'order' it should be dismantled, what bits need to be left in place before others.

is it important to keep the car 'roll-able' as such for as long as possible, or can you complete the break with it on axle-stands?

Will a large garage be suitable, or will I need it on a ramp?

Isn't there a method of making the engine removal easier by cutting out a crossmember?.

Any other advice welcomed.

I will also offer a discount on the engine, if someone with all the right tools & equipment comes & helps me take it out etc.

So the 40K from new engine could be available to someone soon..!

it was 70/30 in favour of saving, but with Christmas/winter + other house expenses coming up it's now creeping to 60/40 break frown

Why aren't you selling as a whole? The club are becoming alarmed by the number of coupés being broken for parts that could be saved and kept on the road, hence one of the reasons behind removing the "breaking" section from the forum.....

agreed - nothing personal to anyone but I think this forum should actively discourage breaking, and no such info should be forthcoming from here

Is there no way you can store this car for a bit mate,
was unusual to see the amount of corrosion on the sills alone yet not on the underbody.
With the way it looks anyone would buy it and not be aware of what lies beneath.

I did think I recalled that was the issue but didn't want to mention it in case I was wrong and put off potential buyers.

Yes but think about it - despite it needing less than £500 to initially get it back on the road, brand new Engine 40K ago running sweet as a nut, superb condition all round - with it's 'off-road' status/welding people will still want it for sheer pittence.

If someone offers me £1500 I would - but there is no way on earth that is going to happen.

I would LOVE for it to be seen on the road again, under my ownership or at least someone els's

I've asked advice & researched what parts are selling for, if I fully break I reckon I could get back £1300 at least.

I know it's awful, but I must put my own situation & finances first.

It will either be housed for the winter & saved, or broken, I'm not selling it for a 3-figure sum as a whole

Oh I didn't see the 'breaking' section has been removed shocked

Does that mean you will have to list each part seperatly in the 'parts for sale' section if you are breaking one?

Well we've broken 12 or so 20vt this year, simple answer is there not in demand, but at this rate there will be only mint condition ones left

The posts will be rejected and you will be asked to list them on ebay. The selling section was discussed at length by the members and the new rules voted upon at the recent AGM.

We've closed a thread like this before so we're going to be consistent here. We've decided to actively discourage breaking. Sometimes it's the only thing you can do (crash), but it really is detrimental to the general value of these cars.

As for help, I suggest using the PM function to get in touch with someone in specific who you would suspect can help.

Enough info, I personally hope you will make the decision to keep the car.

I have considered breaking a coupe. In fact the said (or is that sad) car is languishing at the bottom of my Garden. My plan had been to use it as a donor car for my LE, but events overtook this as the LE had to be sold.

I spent a lot of time pricing items up and working out postage etc. However I just did not have the heart to do it in the end. If you have any emotional attachment to the car you will find it difficult.

However it also takes a shed load of time and effort and I found it hard to get the motivation to start it all. This was compounded by the car being roadworthy!

I can understand the decision you are pondering.

My car needs a clutch, cambelt change, manifold and oil cooler pipes. After spending over £1,500 I would still have a peeling Scottie with 140k miles worth no more than £800. Even with a £2.rk respray it would be worth £2k max.

So it languishes at the bottom of my drive, sorned and forlorn, a bit scruffy and awaiting an uncertain future.
