As the coupe won't open this morning!!! grr

Every time I plipped the plipper (sounds dirty laugh ) the lock would unlock then relock. This was due to the passenger side not opening. So I pressed the button and quickly grabbed the handle and it opened.

Had to slowly coax the passenger side open when some gentle tugging on the interior handle, as the exterior was frozen.

I presume some spray grease into the lock mechanism on both, will prevent problems?

On the plus side - handbrake released fine!! laugh

This happened to my Golf last year.(2 years old at the time) The snow melted from the roof and collected in the bottom corner of the sill where it froze, I opened the door and this was the result….

Body shop repair; £225
The same week the car refused to start, ECU component had packed in; cost to replace, €800.Ok it was minus 15 but even so.
So folks it's not just coops that suffer during the winter months, it can affect 'well designed' 'reliable' cars too.

Horsing around's a serious business.

I would recommend everyone take there locks off and grease them and treat the rubbers asap.

This morning was a PITA.

Tomorrow will be worse!

Glad its not just me.

I got my conceirge service to nip out and buy me a scraper and 2 bottles of de-icer.

Felt like it was a waste of time when I got up this morning.... however, being in Scotland and it only being November, I can imagine it will get used at some point.... laugh

I've been lucky enough to have my brake cables renewed this year. Packed with copper grease & sprayed with oil down the liners. So this winter fingers crossed. Regarding the windscreen, rain x or similar helps. Doesn't stop ice forming, but easily removed. I've used a graphite spray for the locks & stuck a bit of tape over the lock face with very good results.

I do have a decent car cover, but at times I am a bit lazy. Bring on the season... snowman driving

Just another thing or 2, to add.

Firstly thanks to Edinburgh for his door lock removal guide. Used first portion to remove handle etc.

Secondly, I read barnacles out of sync central locking FAQ and numerous threads where he tries to help people to understand the witch craft of the coupes system.

Numerous methods as to how to resolve this are mentioned, but none of them worked this time for myself.

So I took a stab in the dark as to another method.

Basically, when I tried to unlock my car Monday morning it was relocking the drivers door immediately. The passenger wasnt opening. So when it unlocked the drivers door, I quickly grabbed the handle and interrupted it.

With some gentle tugging from exterior and interior handle the passenger side opened.

When arriving to my work, central locking out of sync. Now, as the key doesn't lock the drivers side, had to leave that unlocked all day at work. Then overnight at my house. Joy!!! The central locking will lock the drivers side.

Stripped down drivers side handle (need to remove lock to fix key locking problem) and greased up passenger side handle, which was quite stiff anyways.

Still couldn't get it back in sync from the usual lock/unlock procedure with the fob. So, thought the central locking unit must have a memory. Disconnected negative terminal for circa 30-45 mins. Left both doors unlocked. Reattached and hey presto it was working again.

Used it several times this evening and working fine.

Don't know if this will help anyone else, but may be worthwhile adding to FAQ??

Cheers

Ross

Had ice on the windscreen but that was it. Perhaps you're just a big girl.

Lol@Dan.

It wasn't that cold in Glasgow today. The roads had patches of ice, but windscreen wasn't frozen on any of the cars. crazy

Just to add to this thread - I finally fixed my central locking for good, by fixing the drivers side lock.

I've greased both of the locks and the handle mechanisms on both sides. Much nicer sound on opening either, because they were both quite mucky.

Not done my door seals yet, as I have an issue with the passenger side (some numpty has put some gel sealant behind the previous door seal to fix a section, but now I've replaced the door seal, it doesn't sit correctly at one place) so need to sort that then spray them up so they don't freeze.

Both the coop & my fiancees yaris were frozen solid this morning. Had to pop the key in a jug of boiling water for a while to thaw the locks. Took longer to get into the yaris though....

It was freezing hard this morning and still bloody cold this afternoon so it was on with the winter tyres on my daily driver.

Heatwave tomorrow then?

If it's any consolation, the Bravo takes even longer to see out of when it's frosty than the coupe does...

Snow tyres going on tomorrow.

So does the Grande Punto, it doesn't burn enough fuel to heat the windscreen properly for about 5 miles.

At least the air con seems to dehumidify with external temperatures below zero.
