I see no problem with the sniping at all, ever one wants a good deal. Put in the price you want to pay for it, if you get it you get it, if you don't you don't.
I have lost out on a car I wanted once my 2 pounds or something silly.
All part of the eBay game I'm afraid

If you had the chance to nab an item at the last minute, you'd take it. Next time, be quicker. wink

If it's something you REALLY want you should make sure you've put in the most you want to pay, within the last 20 seconds or so. I usually put in my max. offer in the last 10 seconds if on a computer. On a phone it's harder as slower. I'm lucky as I can get on ebay at work if it finishes during work hours. I've sometimes stayed up past midnight to bid on something I really wanted.

That way, at least if you do get outbid then you won't feel as bad because 1) it went for more than you were prepared to pay and 2) you made sure someone else didn't get it too cheap laugh

I never bid on anything till the last 10 seconds. I bid the maximum I am prepared to pay and then do not have the temptation of upping the offer in the last few mins. There will always be another chance anyway.

I enjoy putting in the last second bid, as for a moment you've no idea if you've won or not whilst ebay refreshes on the screen

I'm on a different professional auction site and whenever someone bids in the last 5 minutes they will extend the bidding for another 5 minutes.

Basically, if you're complaining about snipers, you're *really* saying "I placed my best bid but I wanted a chance to increase it if anyone beat it... so now I'm sulking because I left it too little."

If you really want it, bid high. If you don't care yea or nay, bid low. But never bid more than your limit just because you've been outbid.

I can't really understand what this fuss is all about... I guess, you just don't know who to lose.

Always bid last second myself. Also put a few pence on top of my highest bid in pounds. Feels even better when you are the highest bidder by a couple of pence. Was once the highest bidder on a car by 1p.

Im a cereal 'sniper', In my opinion unless you cant make the auction close, your an idiot wacking in bids early! Why the hell would you bid days before?, It just gauges interest from others, I only bid with seconds to spare and ALWAYS win my auctions.

Also it saves me money, and thats what its all about, buying at auction = cheap.

This thread's getting a bit too surreal.

Bit harsh to call them a scumbag!? I always do this on ebay, sometimes its the only way to win, just 'watch the item' and then make a bid in the last ten seconds. Works especially well if there is only one other bidder

Agreed Tommy, although this method also has it's pitfalls (ie if your bid in the last 10 seconds is not enough to win it over the existing bidder).

Hence the value to make your bid the most you're prepared to go to, whenever it is that you make it. If you're looking for a bargain, they are always on the bay to be found.

I don't think the Frostie attitude to this is warranted.

I think anybody who knows their oats can work out a decent value for stuff on the bay.

Yeah that's true, but I usually bid an unusually high amount knowing it's very rare that someone would bid that high and i end up winning everytime smile
