Hi
I have noticed on ebay a couple of 350bhp+ Coupes for sale
An Inky one and a Blue one
Both going for between £3 and £4k

Both on the surface have the mechanical bits and body kit i am after

Does anybody here know anything about them?
Looking at the list of "parts" both seem comprehensive - Q is which one to go see first????

Its either this or spend around £3k to do up mine....

Any thoughts much appreciated

Ta
Lenny

Hi Lenny,

When I bought mine I also thought of going down the 'already modified' route, but it doesnt answer the questions of: how old are all the parts, how well has the engine been serviced, Is it a real bhp claim aka backed up with rolling road figures, having owned a lot of race cars over the years my cars would gain 30bhp between two different rolling roads confused Im affraid not all roads give a 'true' reading.

So I have gone down the route of self modification! Only thing i wished i had changed was, I wish i had spoken to Flea first as I wouldnt have ended up with a Turbo which can only give 305bhp! grr

Still at least i know all the parts are new and although we have 305 bhp the parts which Flea is fitting for me next (aiming for 400) are going to support the stage after next aka 450-500bhp.

Hope this helps
Ben laugh

If you buy a modded Coupe on the Forum the odds are that

a) The car will be known
b) It will have been owned and loved (hated) by a club member
c) It will have a history of the work done on the forum
d) The work will have been carried out with loving care and attention either by one of the advertised specialists or an owner who knew what they were doing.

If you buy one from elsewhere, then caveat emptor in extremis. You can always buy a known car on the forum and then it will blow up next week; however this is far more unlikely to happen than buying a pig in a poke off FleaBay

Built by the legendary Barbz? A1 buy (but as with all cars it COULD blow up tomorrow). Most unlikely to though, and a damned sight cheaper than doing it yourself wink

... and you will get great aftermarket service from a real enthusiast thumb

That's a similar spec to mine , and when I think of the money spent, from parts to labour to mapping if you got that for 3kish it'd be like getting a free car with the parts! cool

Plus two top names mentioned Flea/Barbz so you can ask a few questions on the history?

Actually is that the inky that was in the for sale section a few months back?

Cheers for your thoughts
I am hoping these cars where forum owned
As they stand a better chance of "not blowing up" lol

Correct the inky one was on sale but didn't due to a timewaster
If Flea/barbs remember it drop us a line!

My thinking is it would be cheaper to buy "done" but take on board
The comments about the parts etc

The one on Kaci's link was at the Autoitalia Windsor Racecourse meeting in September 2011.

One of the photos shows it parked in front of Nismo's car at that event.

I don't recall who owned it or if he was a forum member though.

The one at the end with the bonnet open in this picture.

Perhaps others in the photo can help.

I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.
I even unplugged my own.

Yes, as Nismo said it's RMJ's coupe, he used to be a forum member. He has had a lot of work done by barbz and flea and from what i know has not covered a huge amount of miles since the work has been done. RMJ (Rob) is the guy just in shot on the far right eyeing up my wheels!

Also depends on how specific you want to be with your modifying, the great thing about doing it yourself is that you get to choose what turbo, exhaust, suspension you want on it etc thereby effecting how the car will respond in everyday driving, the downside to that of course being it is much more expensive than just buying a second hand version which someone has already spent all the money modifiying the vehicle

Hi all, just a heads-up about this. I purchased this car on ebay. It was advertised as 12 months MOT and `outstanding mechanical condition`. In fact, it did not have a 12mth MOT, the seller Rob, said he would put it through the MOT before I could collect- after I paid in full. It failed the MOT, and we agreed a full refund - however the seller then decided to deduct the sellers fee, listing fee and some pocket money for sweets - he actually `rounded it up` to £200 - before refunding me. Absolute nightmare to deal with - caveat emptor - buyer beware.

He was screwing you over here too. If you both agreed to cancel the sale through ebay, the fees would be returned to him too, including any paypal costs also if they were involved.

£200 buys a lot of sweets!

Chancer indeed rolleyes

I've met him several times and always though he seemed like a ok guy, even bought parts from him without any problems. Will not be buying anything off him in future, been ripped off in the past and it makes my blood boil that people have the front to do stuff like this.

So you bought and paid for a car you've never seen before? It seems like a bit of an impulse buy and not something I would ever do.

Not that I'm saying it's right for him to have deducted any fees, but surely you would inspect a car before buying?
