Just remove the thing...... more trouble than they're worth, and the immobiliser still works! My siren ended up in a bucket of water at JBTs

Assuming it's a META M99T or T2 alarm they do automatically sound when the battery is reconnected even if it was disarmed when disconnected as an additional anti-theft feature in case Mr Scumbag thinks he can get around the alarm by disconnecting the battery for a while. If you haven't got the fob your only option is to completely remove the system. You'll lose your remote central locking (will still work on the key though) but the CODE immobiliser won't be affected as it's a separate system. The car will, in theory at least, no longer be Thatcham Cat 1 protected though, just Cat 2 for the immobiliser, but there's no reason to admit this to anyone who might want to know such info

A cheap aftermarket alarm with central-locking interface could be installed to restore the remote central locking if you wanted.

Actually, thinking about it you could just remove the siren & disconnect the link to the hazard light circuit - the siren will start bleating as soon as it's disconnected but a heavy blunt instrument would resolve that...

The trouble is that the hazard lamps start flashing whilst you are driving, which tends to attract unwanted attention . Much better to remove the whole shebang, and just use the keys to open the doors.

The siren is ultra quiet, its almost like someone has drowned it before, I never used the rcl as I never had the fob......

If the led is flashing then yes it is 'live' as such, from reading the instructions the rapid flashing seems to be an 'initialising' phase the alarm goes through when reconnected but it expects a signal from the fob shortly thereafter.

Well the hazards have stopped but the dash light still soldiers on....

Just to bump this,

I have found the fob so have disarmed the system but when the car is locked on the fob all is good however wen I open the car with the fob the siren goes off......

Where is the siren located so I can remove and drown it

Behind the passenger side front wing - lift bonnet, undo three retaining bolts on the wing (one of which is behind the spongey block thing), hinge wing down a bit and the siren should be hanging on a bracket in the top of the cavity.
