Just thought it was time for a general moan really!

You might have seen that I've had my beloved 20vt up for sale for a few weeks now, via a half-arsed advert on the forum. Well, this morning the car is getting a good wash and polish for some updated photos, then in the New Year it will be time for a full-on assault of the different advertising sites to get it sold!

And the reason for this is the fact that my girlfriend and I need to start saving for the fabled house deposit (definitely not that i'm being strong-armed into it!!). I've managed to postpone this saving for almost 12 months now, but the nagging has finally got to me! And owning a 20vt as a daily driver is definitely not good for your saving strategy!!

My current commute to work involves a 4.5 mile run that can take up to 35 mins due to traffic.

So my brainwave was to buy a new Fiat 500 on finance for £139 a month with no deposit - that cost would be covered by my expenses from a couple of site visits a month. Then there's £30 a year tax, 50mpg and no MOTs to worry about.

Brilliant I thought - until we started looking into mortgages online. That outstanding car finance would knock around £15k of the amount we could borrow apparently!?

So now it's looking like i'm going to have to sell the coupe and buy something like a £1k Ford Puma, or Clio Dci etc etc.

Which sucks.

Plus this Christmas we've just done 700 miles in my girlfriends 1.0 VW Polo, visiting my sister. Which in all honestly wasn't too bad...... until I got to drive my coupe from Leeds to Darlington yesterday!!

Think i might keep my eyes open for a VIS and see how that goes down with the boss!

Dont worry, just as soon as you have the property, the loan / credit card companies will instantly smell blood and you will be inundated with offers of cheap loans and credit cards.

Owning a property turns you from being a financial leper to Gold Stared Debt Junkie

You can pretty much guarantee that once you have been in the property for 12 months and you don't have any other expenses that Fiat 500 will be as good as yours.

Nick,i imagine a bike would suit you for the work miles. Dont buy a small car, hence more borrowing power.
Then get something else when you have your new home.

You could get yourself a bicycle and cycle to work, then save the coupe for the weekend.

Ha, I have (briefly) considered cycling to work but;

1. I'd have to take a much longer route to work.
2. There are some big hills on the route.
3. I'm lazy.
4. I really need a car for work as am sometimes called to site from the office!

So I just need a car that's cheap to run for 12 months or so!

Oh, and i'm really glad I spent 2 hours cleaning my car this morning - it hasn't stopped raining here since lunchtime!

Well now I really don't want to sell it.

Was getting my site gear on in a Power Station car park this morning, when a nice chap came over for a chat.
He started off by saying how brave I was bringing such a nice car to this car park as he's had a load of dings from it - but I then explained my reason for parking as far away from everyone as possible! laugh

Then we just had a 5 minute chat about the car, which was nice................. doubt that'll happen when i'm driving round in a £1k diesel shitter!!

I've just thought though - I should have tried to sell it to him! Think i've missed a trick there!! laugh

Don't even start with weddings/engagements etc - my girlfriend hardly spoke to me for 24 hours after the subject reared its ugly and expensive head on Sunday!!

Well i'm resisting posting any more in this thread as recently found out my girlfriend has been trying to show her workmates my 'for sale' ad - so it would be just my luck she'd start wandering around other parts of the forum too!! smile

Well my coupe is 7 hours away from selling on eBay, and I don't like it! I'm starting to have mini panic attacks I think!!

The last 2 times I sold my coupe I had another waiting to replace it. This time it looks like i'm going to have a MK1 MX5 instead.

Hmmmm it seemed a good idea a few weeks ago, but now it's becoming a reality i'm not so sure!!!!
