I really like the new range of Alfas, especially the Guilietta. But.... I was following one this evening, and the rear LED lights are..... well they just reminded me of the moustache on the dreadful Go Compare adverts.

Ruination - whenever I see one now that cloud9 tune is going to go through my head crazy ! censored

Love the current alfa range but the whole back end of the guilietta is not pretty.

The back end of a Guilietta is not so much like a moustache. More like 2 crude drawings of a gentleman's equipment.

The back of the Giullietta looks similar to the new shape Vauxhall Astra.

Personally I am not keen on Alfa's current design direction. Bug-eyed headlights don't do much for me.

The lights: click to enlarge

The inspiration: click to enlarge

I rather like 'em, myself - they're distinctive without the artificial look of many of the LED-strip type rear lights.

Has anyone noticed that on modern Mercs, the LED sidelights that are below the front bumper line appear to wobble when the car's moving? If it is active aerodynamics it won't make that turd fly, and there are worse styling crimes to come around the rear wheels.
Anyway onto the Guilietta, I'm sure there are better things that can be done with LEDs than dolling a car up like a Christmas tree.
For example you could spell anything you want, flick birds, compliment a beautiful lady in a neighbouring car etc.

I'm not an optican, but mine tells me that the reason that the LED lights appear to 'dance' like that is my astigmatism. Nothing to do with Top Gear, it just means my eyes are not spherical. I get the same thing with other lights, particularly LED's on electronics. Nothing you can do about it once its as bad as mine.

Back on topic, despite the schoolboy sniggers, I do quite like the look of the Guilietta, I just think its better by day!

You could be right because I think I have something similar in my right eye but it doesn't explain why I don't see other LEDs wobble like that.
The Guilietta is definitely a grower, I couldn't stand the look of the 147s front when it came out, but I now have a 156 s2 which has similar design features.

Your optician could be right - astigmatism focuses them differently in vertical and horizontal planes. Though it could be the saccadic eye movement, too - the little jumps around that your eye makes all the time.

I *hate* the fact that LED lamps are almost always pulse-driven (because a over-driven pulsed LED is perceptually brighter than a constant drive one at the same average current) - as your eye tracks past them you see the lights in a series of flashes, in different places, and I find the effect most disturbing. You don't see it if you try and track the light because you're concentrating on it... same effect from LED bike lamps and those orange road work lamps, too.

What kind of frequency do they pulse at? Is it something TVish like 25 Hz?
I have a flashing bike lamp but that's only about 4 Hz, and it seems to be both annoying and invisible to other road users frown

Faster than 25 Hz, I think, but I don't have a spec, and it's probably different for different makers.
