Can anyone help me to identifying a sci-fi novel?
Bit of a geeky request I'm afraid. There was this sci-fi novel that I started reading about ten years ago; I didn't get to read it and gave it back to the lender.
That was about ten years ago and the book was probably quite old.
Anyway I remember one bit It's a nerdy and a bit gross but I'll bet someone on here knows it:

There were three scientists from earth in a spaceship somewhere and the spaceship developed a serious fault (or was damaged somehow), life support failed and two of the three scientists died. One, a woman, didn't, well not exactly. There happened to be an alien vessel nearby and they intervened. Now these aliens were known to earth and they were a reclusive bunch. The aliens didn't really understand human ways of doing things and in order to keep the scientist alive they liquidised bits of her and fed them to her for nourishment.

Does anyone know it?
