I think throttle position is a red herring. I have seen from data logging maximum boost with less than 75 degrees of throttle opening on acceleration.
My bet is on the turbo - probably a mis-match between the turbine wheel and the turbine housing.

finally some good news..... Well not good as it will cost more dough but we know what it is and its not the engine..... It's deffo the turbo! bolted the standard one on and it spooled straight upto 1.8 bar..... leightons not had chance to have a proper look at turbo but he has a hunch Compressor wheel may also be undersized.... Witch has pissed me off a little as i feel i should just take it back to my turbo guy.... I know what will happen tho, he'll just blame it on the exhaust housing being swapped over.... And i can't be arsed with all that.... Don't know if it is compressor for deffo yet tho!! anyways leighton says he knows a couple of turbo guys who will be able to sort it out! So we can see some light at the end of the tunnel..... And WHAT a tunnel!! nick

Sorry to hear that, but see post #1268583 - I think taking it to a turbo re-build expert sooner would have saved you some money.....

i know i know.... Well you live and learn..... leighton has asked me for my full spec so he can spec the turbo accordingly.... I'm hoping it will be just a wheel change as bearings and bearing housing is all brand new!! I think if that turbo would have been what it was meant to be then we would of easily got in excess of 350.... More like 375-400 with sufficient boost.... I believe my engine build/spec is easily capable of 400 so lets get a properly spec'd turbo and get another 16vt in the 400 bhp club.... ......... That would be nice!! nick

quick update..... waste gate penny not seating properly on dodgy turbo obviously causing the boost leak... It also turns out my 'new' turbo has pretty worn bearings... Won't be using turbo guy again!! So Fleas given turbo to a guy who he knows and who has diagnosed these faults..... so turbo needs refurb basically! i've had to decide on whether to stick with T34 or for Extra 100ish quid, upgrade to T38 wheel..... No brainer really! also need to uprate clutch as mine has been slipping at 1.2 bar on the old t34!! its gonna be a few weeks yet as i wanna sort the main man some wedge out before going ahead with refurb and clutch.... SO you might want to Rewise your BHP Guess's please..... roll on next spring and summer and some dry roads ...... And possibly a few 1/4 miles... nick

Not given up?? Came very close tho over xmas... Seriously considered selling/breaking over xmas as finances have taken a nose dive as explained in the "whats happened to Nick d" thread.. spoke to leighton today and its been decided that gonna get turbo (t34)just completely refurbed.... So 400 horses are on hold for 6-12 months.... As i'm also gonna need a clutch as mine is pretty shite! so leighton will map it to where he can before clutch slips, he said that he can do something "clever" with the map so that the torque doesn't overwelm the clutch at say 4000 revs (where it will really kicks hard normally).... Think he said boost will climb more progressively.... More like a super charger he said!?..... Not promising anything tho as my clutch is in pretty poor shape!! shame as that is what i love most about my 16v and journal bearing turbo.... The huge kick at peak boost around 4K.... i guess it will be a different drive all together?? Peak torque will be much further up the rev range instead of between 3800-4200 i guess? if i could find a really cheap second hand clutch that will be able to hold my torque i'd prob shell out the extra and get team flea to fit it .... Anyone selling one CHEAP!! So i may get to drive my car spring/summer after not having it for around 2 years!! Wahoo!! nick

Nick, just love the optimism, but you need to make sure the drivetrain can handle the power and the brakes can stop her before you employ the horses. If you can't use the power and drive/stop the car then there is no point horseing it....
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but IMO these come first. I'm modding my Scottie for a few extra ponies having already sorted the brakes etc.,

Quick update peeps..... Car is STILL with Leighton, and will be having new clutch fitted next week sometime, it will then be MOT'd and hopefully be mapped and back in my possession within 2-3 weeks, ready for summer! So with new clutch in place we should have a solid platform for some monster low down torque...... 400 ft lb should do!! Nick
