I've just received my back up rocker cover, which i am going to clean up and repaint to suit the rest of the car once my hand has gone through post surgery recovery. rolleyes

I'm more than likely going to go with broom yellow for the cover and sprint blue for the coil pack cover. Then polish up the lettering.I may well have a play with how it will look before I decide 100% on the co-ordination/placement of colouring. cool

Reason for the post is i've got an idea of what to use for the job but not entirely sure on what i'll need regarding tools,sanding,polishing,paint/painting..

If anyone has any hints/tips and even ideas i'm ready to take it all on board!

Thanks in advance! bye

PM Nismo he's done loads, broom yellow is a real pain from what i've heard will definately need an undercoat in white or yellow first.

Here is yellow and blue, albeit from my 16v

A better choice if you decide to spray paint the cam cover would be to use hammerite yellow, very similar and a lot more durable.

My local wizard at Kent Paints (near Maidstone) knocks up heat-resistant paint in any colour you want. I used a coat of etch, a coat of primer, three top coats and two coats of lacquer... works on Brembos too. Iain is the expert though wink !

Hard to explain but I was thinking of polishing the side edges of the raised coil convex bits.....if you catch my drift?

Just an update....
Got round to giving the cover a good clean up with gunk, paint brush and a wire brush, which took longer than expected using only one hand as i'm still in a splint.
Next step is sanding away the stubborn imperfections and giving a good finish ready for primer and paints...
As a sidenote I used gunk green to clean it up..thoroughly impressed with it especially as it's biodegradeable which for me was a godsend as it made it easier to clean up the mess.
Also found what looks like a snapped off wire brush blocking the oil return ! shocked

its a filter for the oil return pipe , clean it up in gunk and put it back when you have finished lacquering the cover , saves any large bits going into the cams .

Thought it was. That's why it's been cleaned and waiting to be replaced.I was just surprised to see that a filter could look very much like a wire brush!

Out of interest Iain, approx how long did your refurbs take? After all i've got 5 weeks off work still rolleyes

Is it not the flame trap instead?
