Yep, all forum owned cars should try and command a premium - severe punishment should be delt out to those breaking the price rules - essentially our price fixing!!

That's how a lot of classic car dealers work example Ferrari F40 for sale at £250,000 then then put sold on the next mag advert, the next month they put the same F40 up for £270,000 and do the same again. Now you can't get a good F40 for less than £300,000. And before people jump in saying "yeah but that's a Ferrari not a Fiat" it works on a lot of classic cars.

I don't know why people are so worried about resale value. These cars are dirt cheap and have been for years, but who cares. You don't lose anything on depreciation and they are probably the best bang for buck car you can buy. You don't buy a late 90s Fiat as an investment. Just enjoy it!

I think the issue is that mint or cars that have had lots of money spent on them to bring up to 'top' condition is meaningless Boosted!

It depends what your goal is I suppose. If you frequently buy coupes that need work, spend a few grand to fix them, and then sell them on again, you won't be making any money that's for sure. But the same could be said for just about any other car. I'm still in the middle of a Jensen Interceptor restoration that has become a bit of a nightmare (did someone mention RUST!?!)... in the end we will have overcapitalised, but the car has sentimental value and I'll never sell it, so it's not meaningless to me smile

Totaly agree Boosted7

I know people will have different views . I dont care if i spend 10k and end up with £5 car at end. Its what i want yes for sure if coupe where higher price i would still buy if i could afford. Spending X amount on car , you will never get it back . Just means you can enjoy it for longer and hopefully easier to sell if thats what you wish to do.

But for those who do price high away.

I have to agree with above quotes.

I am doing up a cat c. She will never be worth what I put into her. I do not care. I want her to be reliable. If I spend 3k on her and she lasts me 3 years then I will be doing better than driving a newer, boring car losing over 1k a year. Planning to spend much more though crazy

Life is about having fun. I could get a boring motor that is cheap to run. The smile on my face each time I drive her, or each time I burn off a boy racer or expensive motor (within speed limits) is worth it. She will be track ready soon. I would not do it with an expensive motor. Wife don't know how much I spend on her and knows she was cheap to buy biglaugh

Can't think of any bad reasons on why not to own a Coupe wink

It's all very well saying you'll spend what you want on the car, damn the consequences, but it would be nice to be able to invest money in the car knowing you could recoup some of it back some day if needs be. Nobody likes to pour money down the drain.

Also, I could easily spend £10k on my car but if it got trashed there no way in hell any insurance company would give me £10k back for it.

We all love the car, maybe having a decent value attached to it will mean that others will love them more too (not boy racers etc.). You may not even have to hide the amount you spend on it from the Mrs out of guilt!

Don't get me wrong, mine is a keeper with any luck, but I'm not 100% financially stable, so maybe one day I'll have to sell, you never know. That's why I'm keeping it maintained to the standard I can afford, which is quite well at the moment. In the future I want to spend more money on it, but only when I know I will definitely be keeping it forever, it would be a waste otherwise.

These cars are all about 20-25 years old. The oldest Coupe's are probably around 16 years old? The Coupe is a different and distinctive car. One of the most distinctive from the 90's so there will always be a market there. It's clear from the numbers of people who have/do use this Forum that there is a pretty large following here in the UK - despite the Coupe not being sold in huge numbers.

What we need now to get the values up is for someone to come up with a TV series set in the mid 90's where the star (no doubt some sort of chain smoking, whisky drinking, womanising, hard hitting type) drives a Fiat Coupe.

Anyone here work in TV?

Anyone know Clarkson's eMail? He loved them when they were new, and he chose one for a stupid challenge. Give him a good one to take round the TG track, and THEN ask him what it is worth..... wink

Agree 100%

For me the only benefit of age is that they become more rare & more unusual. I honestly couldn't gve a stuff about values. I feel the same about performance too. There are a good few mundane cars out there today that can easilly give Coupé a bloody nose.

Love them for what they are. If you need them to be something else, like valuable, then you need to look elsewhere!

Gone Audi mad!

Here, here! I intend to keep my two on the road for as long as I can afford to, and might add to the fleet if I can get rid of my Alfa. Took my Scottie out for a good run tonight after a week sitting on the drive and just brilliant laugh ! As safe an investment as Polly Peck, but a lot more smiles, and a much better investment than a new car..... thumb

If you worried about recouping money from a car , then dont buy any car basicly.

Get a agreed value insurance policy and yes they will pay out.

10k is not a lot to spend on a car over years of ownership insurance tax tyres services etc

A car is a liabitly not a asset at end of day.

I have to agree with this, these cars are not investments, they are financial liabilities, albeit with a certain return.

I payed £5K for mine and feel I got good value, however I'd be very lucky to sell it for that again despite the fact I'm spending lots of time and money restoring it.

No matter how good looking or fast the Coop is, the badge always lets it down (in the eyes of the public).

If only it had an Alfa badge...

I have a few financial liabilities. My Coupe is the cheapest out of all of them. All of them make me smile. All of them make me happy. All of them make me frustrated at times. My others? I have a wife and kids laugh

The British perception of affordable Italian cars is that they lack style and reliability, their benchmark being BL products like Rover and MG.
Clearly our good taste as coupe owners sets us apart from the mainstream mob of convention

Haha, no, I've hardly spent anything on my Coupe over the years.

£97,000 is the price for a blue Jaguar XKR-S laugh

Lovely cars T. I sat in a sprint blue one at the Brussels car show in January and although it felt a bit cramped inside... I'd have one if got a job as a bank robber.

Any vacancies you know of?

There was a Sprinty one (official colour is French Racing Blue) at the Pageant of Power show last July, that I was sitting in, drooling over, falling in love with, etc love

Sod the Lambo's and Ferrari's etc, if I win the lottery, I'm having the Jag.

If I don't win the lottery, then there could be a partnership vacancy very soon laugh
