In a nutshell the cd deck of my head unit has given up (one of the many micro switches I think). Being a tight arse and quite liking the sound quality and never playing a cd in the car anymore, does anyone know how you'd go about putting a line in, in place of the cd input. Has any one done it?

Hopefully this isn't as silly as it sounds as the make up is very modular inside. I.e. the cd player, tuner and amp are all separate.

I guess what I'm looking for is the voltage range the cd output works within.

How old is the head unit, does it have a DIN type socket at the back for external CD player? Presumably it's not new enough to have a line-in socket already?

Dave it does. It also has 2 RCA in sockets for the audio signal from the cd changer option. The din plug is only for power and controlling the changer. The problem with that option is that it needs a cd changer connected to make it use the RCA input. I think the head unit needs to see a specific signal from the changer.

Bockers, a big thank you. Exactly what I'm looking for.

I'll report back if I get anywhere.
