just being looking for charge temp gauges , and found this , I know its for avionics but it runs of 12v system, but is there any reason it would not work before i try and get one oredred.

thanks smile

Double check the voltage as the description shows +14v to 28v.

Joe's right, it may not work as it's designed for a 28 volt DC bus.

The top end of the coupé's output is just at the lowest of the gauge. I'd put in an email before you buy.

yeah , your right , for some reason I thought it was 12v , hmm was wondering as when the engines running it is putting out around 14v , but sure you can get some thing to raise the voltage from 12 to what ever is required...

You need to do some digging as I'm not sure. You need to check the type of DC voltage coming out. I think how you would step up DC voltage is by inverting it to AC, using a transformer to step it up and then a rectifier to bring it back to DC. It may be you get a pulsed DC output and so require a battery to smooth it out for the gauge.

I'm not saying it won't work, just my thoughts on what I'd look for.

just being doing some checking , I have seen the avionic one fitted in a skyline , but there is about half a dozen tuning shops selling them for cars all pretty much identical , apart from the front has there name on..
so will see if I can find an uk supplier..

It's an aircraft part so will work off aircraft DC voltage, 14 or 28VDC, I'm sure a coupe with the engine running is around 14V from the alternator so you will probably be ok.

Most car stereo's are rated at 12-14V if I remember correctly?

Oh dear, makes the one I just bought from Nigel seem cheap. Are they having a laugh? $249? Are you serious? For that money I'd mount it on a pedestal and put it in glass case with 24/7 security guards watching it...

yeah along with my profec2 and aquamist, I dont know how accurate it is or what the refresh rate is but should give me a good idea whats going on.

Let us know how you get on with it when it's fitted. I think it looks cool and there is always space for another gauge smile

Am i missing something crazy

Whats wrong with a widget?

Why do you want to see intercooler temp? Surly the only temp that is important is ACT (Air Charge Temperature) measured at the inlet.

you are missing some thing rolleyes

There is nothing wrong with the widget, its a great piece of kit , I just dont want one.
And I will be using it to measure my ACT (Air Charge Temperature) by placing one of the sensors in the charge pipe , and probally the other in the SIP (straight Induction Pipe)

So then the question is.

1) Does this device data log?
2) What will this information tell you that will be of use whilst driving?

I understand the use of a before and after temperature sensor to understand intercooler efficiency but if this is not coupled with data logging from engine parameters what use is it? i.e why have a permeant gauge telling you delta temperature across the intercooler when the temp sensor at the inlet is of most importance?

(I'm not having a go I'm just trying to understand what you are trying to achieve)

1) Does this device data log? Not as far as I am aware

2) What will this information tell you that will be of use whilst driving? Nothing really - Maybe at a stretch a high act , but I am in know way under the ilusion that its gonna save my engine

I understand the use of a before and after temperature sensor to understand intercooler efficiency but if this is not coupled with data logging from engine parameters what use is it? i.e why have a permeant gauge telling you delta temperature across the intercooler when the temp sensor at the inlet is of most importance?

Tbh mate I am not using at a tuning aid , or as some sort of warning device , what your talking about above is a bit above me really with the data logging etc , this gauge is just for my own interest of how the intercooler works (ie hot days , cold days, dry and wet days different speeds) and thats it really not really trying to achieve anything else.

How accurate is the IAT sensor? - I take its in the plenum chamber, also would there be a big difference in tempreture between the charge pipe and the IAT position ? (not being arsey - genuin question)

(I'm not having a go I'm just trying to understand what you are trying to achieve)- no problem
