Off to Thailand very soon and there is a couple of days window we have left completely blank and have nothing at all booked and have to travel from Koh Samui to Krabi. So was wondering if anybody has any advice if there is anywhere that we must see or stopover or even any place we should avoid. Like I say its literally just 2 days and its from Koh Samui to Krabi.
Thanks.

Sounds good chaps.
We are staying on Ko Pangnan for 2-3 days, one of thse on Ko Samui, the boat rip to Ko Tao looks good, will do that! Another place to see!
We are going in a week or so, so no water fight for us.
But for the last week we will travel to Krabi from Ko Samui and just want to know if anyone has done this before and if there were any must do/see or any areas to avoid, just for the 2 days gap we have left for that journey.
Thanks.

Technics, Thorn Tree forum is the place to ask - it's linked to the Lonely Planet website.

I had a couple of days at Khao Sok National Park which is on the way. You can stay in raft houses on the lake which was class, only have power for a short period in the evening then its completely black Great to wake up to and go to sleep to. Don't have my pics on my work PC, but we staying in a place similar to this (only with less rafthouses and nicer weather! ) More info here: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thailand/lower-southern-gulf/khao-sok-national-park

Thanks. I'm guessing you are heading over to Koh Phangang for the full moon party? Koh Samui is not like the other islands. Infact I thought it was quite dirty in parts. Due to the airport they have there it's a bit more like Bangkok than an island! Mc donalds, burger king, starbucks & hookers all over the shop... It's still a beautiful place but not exactly what I would call 'an island experience'. Wicked nightclubs & beach bars in Cheweng though. I didn't stop anywhere on the way back from Krabi back to Koh Tao, but I'm assuming you are visiting Phi Phi whlist over the Krabi side of the country? If so, then you MUST check out Maya bay (where they filmed the beach) and do the over night camping trip if you can! I did it on my birthday and you can actually sleep on the beach if you want... such an amazing sight when you wake up! Plus the glow in the dark plankton in the sea at night if you are lucky!

Yes we have timed it that we will be there and most probably attend the full moon party, just to check it out for the experience.
Yes heard Cheweng is where its all happening, will check it out, only there for the day probably.
Finishing in Krabi so we can chill and like you say visit some beautiful places and islands, do some boat trips and keep it pretty chilled after the first week of city, travelling and partying.
Heard about Maya bay, where is that roughly? Can you do a boat trip from Krabi?
Thanks.

I put this in your earlier thread about beaches, thought it might be useful Depends where you are going - I spent quite a while down in Railay, is lovely, has to be accessed by boat though! Was very relaxing, and a good choice of accomodation from cheap to expensive. If you stay there alot of the day trippers go home and its nice and quiet. Can also do rock climbing etc and tonnes of snorkelling.
Cheap longtail ferries from Ao Nang (near Krabi)
Ao Nang is handily located for speedboats trips to the other islands (Phi Phi, Chicken, Monkey, Poda, the one from The Beach and Bamboo (which was my favourite!) too.
Thought Phi Phi was very busy. Maya bay is The Beach one Didn't realise you could stay on it! Might be a good idea as otherwise can be busy with daytrippers.

Yep it gets incredibilly busy during the day, but at night there's only 30 max on the whole island! Very cool. Technics if you are looking for a day or two to kill then I'd recomend doing it. For 1500bht we got; 10am leave on the longtail boat snorkeling with black tip reef sharks on the way monkey beach, cliff jumping, - (which might sound fun to do naked at the time, actually isn't) lunch on the boat, tour round the small island (which is actually a Thai national park) sunset on the beach with no day trippers in sight, evening meal & free bucket! + sleeping bag/mattng and shelter to sleep under if it rains. I think you can only book this from the island of Phi Phi which happens to be the closest island. But you can book day trips from Krabi.

If this is your first time to Thailand be warned that they drive like lunatics, this down to their religious beliefs "it is already written". They all expect to be reincarnated so think nothing of over taking on blind bends...on our first trip we left the capital by car for hua hin, after 3 hours we arrived safe but shaken. The driver worked for the hotel, so I got him fired karma
