Some of the younger forum members may recognise the name from your dads tape collection but I went to see them on Thursday night at a little gig in the Dubai Rugby 7s ground.

The concert opened with an emaciated looking John Taylor walking out of the smoke playing guitar, then a fat bloke with a beard came out and started to sing. It sounds like Simon but surely....oh no... It is Simon Le Bon, a chubby bearded dyed hair Simon le Bon, "he's really let himself go" my friend shouted to me but we then decided it was about 20 years since either of us had listened or seen them on tv.
Anyway the opening track was one of their new numbers which all of the 40+ year old audience just stood there not moving at all, they then moved swiftly on to the classic tracks and the place was rocking...well as rocking as a bunch of 50 year old new romantics can make it.
Vocally they were superb, almost had me thinking they were miming but they weren't.
All in a very good show smile

Anyone else been to see any fat bearded new romantic groups?

Oh and Yasmin, if you're reading this and you want to move on from that chubby chunk husband, just PM me!

Their Notorius album is still one of my favourites, my god that was over 20 years ago!

I have seen them twice in the last few years, last time up at the O2 just before Christmas. Despite my joy division punk/Indy roots, I do love the new romantic age

Last time I went to see some old bloke playing guitar it was BB King at the Hammersmith Odeon. Eric Clapton and Phil Collins were in the audience.

I purchased my first ZZ Top album in 1975 (Fandango) and it was 2nd hand even then! Then I bought Tres Hombres which is even older ....

Went to see the Counterfeit Stones yesterday and they were frigging brilliant cool
