When your MOT has an advisory saying "Both Headlamps aims weak" and you have got HIDs fitted.

No Matt, they truly are crap. Like once getting out of the car in the rain at night to see if they were on. That was what prompted me to fit HIDs a few years ago.
I've just swapped the HIDs over to an almost new set that I have had on the shelf since 2007 and fitted them.
I will refurb the old ones though as I prefer the matching yellow.

Yes there was quite a lot of rubbish inside when I took them apart to paint the inside yellow and polish the covers a few years ago Sam. The dipped beam reflectors themselves were not particulatly shiny even then.

He actually said mine were one of the best. Mine are easily good enough for illegal speeds on unlit roads without using mains or fogs. BTW, I have intersected the beams at a point perhaps 27-33 metres up the road but just above it at that distance. They don't dazzle oncoming and have cleared the MOT test several times. This concentrates the deficiency whilst still giving peripheral scatter to illuminate the N/S, with the O/S cut-off still evident and bisecting the opposing lane 10-12 metres from the front of car. Results were arrived at by trial and error. Bulbs are stock 55W.

Are we talking Halogen H1's? not HID H1's? If so, I reckon you wear night vision goggles as well

I'm hoping to get my car MOT'd just before the new rules come into play, but I've got someone refurbing a set of headlights for me, as mine are so bad, that they just scatter the beam everywhere.
My old ones, that MABR now has, were so good with HID's, I never put full beam on ever.

Ask someone after 1st April when the new rules come in.
They have never been an issue in the past, nor were they this time for my MOT at the beginning of March.
There is a thread on the forum and one conclusion was that they should be no problem even under the new rules.
