A few points:
- Has he paid for work that was unecessary? Was the headlight really cracked, if not then I'd want that money back please, or show me the old cracked headlight.
- What has happened to the car to get both doors resprayed? Fair enough if there was an accident in the workshop but to damaged both doors seems very odd. I hope its not been involved in a crash outside somewhere.
This is totally unacceptable behavour. Its all well and good that they have repaired the doors, repainted, etc.. but I would want a guarantee for the work too. I don't want big patches of filler, bad prep, etc..

How do you know there's nothing more serious damaged, such as suspension/steering/chassis etc? Seems to me your Dad needs a full and frank, chapter & verse written statement explaining exactly what happened, why, and a disclosure of all the steps they've taken to restore the car....quite how you damage doors in that way is beyond me, and there's a distinct smell of fish and underhand goings-on here

The car is in there possession at that time and there not legally obliged to inform you of any accidents or damage to the vehicle as long as its been rectified. In fact they could easily hand a damage car back to you and say the signs outside say its parked at its own risk.
I spent a most of my working life at main dealers and know how they operate. The things they did were shocking. I wouldnt let them cut my grass let alone touch my car. My concern would be how severe was the damage, whos repaired it and to what standard. If you can see the sanding marks then its full of filler which isnt good for longevity or resale value.

quite how you damage doors in that way is beyond me For both front doors to be damaged, it's got to have been an incident on the ramp while the car was on it. I can't see any other way the car would have been damaged in that way.

Rolled forwards into the support posts, I wondered... Yes that's what I thought was most likely. JBT the sanding marks aren't on the outer door skin, they're around the end/side of the door where the door catch is mounted. The outer is blemish free. Dad is ringing the service manager at the dealer on Monday and will ask "would you like to explain what really happened to my car while it was with you for the 6 days?" and will take it from there. What he can get by way of compensatory action remains to be seen given that he's not going to have the car long enough to need further servicing or MOT's. He's not concerned about any effect on resale value as the car was/is a little scruffy in general anyway (it's a 'working' car in his mind, far from his pride & joy despite it being a top-spec model with just about every conceivable optional extra) plus it will merely be part-ex'd for the Kia in the next few months. He's bought two brand new Stilo's over the years from said dealer and they've always looked after him very well when it's come to servicing & mot's, even doing work under warranty when the car was past the 3 year limit and they have a good local reputation in general, such that he wouldn't have even thought to doubt the 6 day headlamp replacement at the time or have felt the need to check the car over when he collected it so this 'doorgate' scandal has come as a surprise.
She's GONE!

Evening all,
My Dad is the proud owner of a '56 reg Stilo Multiwagon JTD and took it for service & mot in late Jan at his local Fiat dealer. While there they spotted a cracked headlamp so rang Dad for him to ok them to replace it, which he did. The new headlamp turned up the next day but was allegedly a lhd one by mistake so they ordered another...it ultimately took 6 days to sort although Dad wasn't too concerned as he had a courtesy car. He picked up his Stilo and thought thought all was well until he cleaned and polished it earlier this week (he doesn't do it very often!) and noticed that all previous chips, scuffs and scratches that used to be on both front doors were gone and the paint looked rather `fresh`...I had a look yesterday and indeed there's evidence of sanding marks and overspray around both doors so rather strangely it seems that both doors have been painted while at the dealer. Perhaps it was this that took 6 days to do, not the headlamp.
They've done a good job and ultimately Dad's ended up with better condition doors than he had before but he's mighty annoyed that they chose not to tell him and appear to have concocted the headlamp story to buy themselves time to do the paintwork. Does anyone know where Dad stands from a legal or general rights point of view before he pops back in there on Monday to 'discuss' it with them? Was it taken to Stoneacre Fiat? They're terrible imo. My mate bought a car from them and then got a court summons as the car was involved in a hit and run. He had just bought it but they were doing "prep" on it. He got it all sorted fine but I wouldnt go near them. When the RAC took my coupe there years ago I couldnt get it back out fast enough!
