Evening. First post here, thought I'd introduce myself. Bought my first Coupe three weeks ago - was intending to buy a second-hand Ford Focus for a grand, but my friend had just bought an Alfa Romeo Brera and was about to sell his 2.0 20V V.I.S to one of those online car sites for £300. It's a V reg, done 87,000 miles, has a full service history and is very well looked after – apart from the wee dent in the nearside door (that might explain the price he was offered)...

Anyway - I absolutely love driving it (makes a change from my Fiesta!) and wish I'd bought one sooner. And this forum is a great source of info.

One question, though: does every Coupe have a schizophrenic petrol gauge, is it just mine?

Welcome to the Forum.

I find if the Petrol Tank Gauge is at about a quarter or less; It behaves normaly if you are driving economically under 3000RPM.
If you are driving hard/fast and spinning the Turbo Up(3k plus) the fuel warning light will start to flash on/off and the needle drops much more quickly than it should. I can park the car for the night with the warning light on, and next day, if do some light driving and don't spin the turbo up, the needle moves up to it's true level and the warning light stays off. I can drive for another 60 miles before the light will start coming on. If i drive hard again it drops quickly and warns you that you are low.

I thought it was a clever feature which was basically telling you that "if you keep drivin like this - you had better go get some petrol pretty soon" ? Works for me laugh

Mine has a slightly different problem. A few months ago I tried to pull away from my house. The engine would start, but no power to get her moving. Put some petrol in and then no problem. My petrol guage was showing the line before empty, although the light was on. Wouldn't be a problem, but my wife does not like putting fuel in. The last (and only) time she went to put fuel in she phoned me up as she had been looking for the lever to release the petrol cap for at least 5 mins biglaugh

Do have the same with the warning light as already mentioned. My car is a 20vt, but with silver plus dials. Is there much of a difference in the dials to do with the fuel guage?

Welcome. I was lucky enough to run out of fuel 2 miles after picking my VIS up. Since then I take less notice of the gauge and just reset the trip meter after every fill up. Once you hit 400 miles, fill up. (But don't panic, as you should still have a a good 30-50 miles still in the tank, depending on how juicy your driving's been.)

Hi, I've recently got back into coupe ownership and their funny ways. I fill up with exactly 30 liters every time and then wait to light stays on before filling up! Not very scientific but normally get 170 miles (27mpg) commuting which is about right. I guess. Welcome

inky goodness!!
