just wondered if you had any ideas on this. Started taking my T28 apart to fit the 360 bearing kit, the impeller nut was tight but made it 90 degrees round, so i applied a little heat, let it cool, blast of WD40...........then sheared off!!!!!! Gutted because its a nice turbo which only cost me £50! I could find another, but i wonder if its worth trying a T2 (tbo225) shaft from the stock HF turbo. here are the impeller specs-

t2 impeller-

http://www.turbocharger.pl/index.php?pag...d=1&lang=en

t2 compressor-

http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/?p=product&key=1107072986

t28 impeller-

http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/p/product/1001182618-T25+T28+turbine+shaft+435922-1/

t28 compressor-

http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/?p=product&key=1107077146

What characteristics would it give me if i used the t2 shaft in with the rest of the t28 unit and would i have to use the t2 exhaust housing or could i use the t28 housing?
Thanks for any ideas, its all 2 steps forwards 2 steps back at the moment!
Thanks for any ideas,
Guy

Hi.

turbocharger.pl have got their impeller (turbine) inducer and exducer the wrong way round. Exducer is the small side.

A T2 impeller is *tiiiny!*. Good for about 200bhp max. It would be a terrible match for your car.

Regarding your screw thread shearing off. Some turbines have "opposite way" (I forget if "opposite" means left-hand or right-hand!) threads. Could you have tried to turn it the wrong way and snapped it off?

Ooops forgot to mention its going on a lancia delta hf 1.6 turbo hillclimb car. Yeah i looked today and i'd have to use the smaller housing too, the impeller is smaller than i remember! I'm wordering if i'd be better off with a T25. I had a 16v T3 but is a bit too big, the car will probably running about 210-220 bhp so need a turbo to match that. I just went for a T28 because there seem to be plenty passing hands here.

p.s Bollox, i just researched and the T25/28 has a left handed thread! The T3 i rebuilt had a normal RH thread so didn't even think to check.

Ah I see, that totally changes matters! Both the T25 and the T28 will get you 200-220 bhp. The T28 might possibly have a bit of a high boost threshold for a 1600cc. On the turbocharged 1800cc Renault Clio 16Vs that I've tuned, the boost threshold is about 4000rpm.

If it were my car I'd start with a T25. Going back to the Clio 16Vs, I've made 235bhp @ 15 psi on a T25 with, IIRC, a clipped turbine.

BTW, changing turbos will need corresponding changes in mapping. What have you done about engine management?

Nothing yet, though when i had the T3 on it it had a power run and ran a bit lean at the top end, other than that ran well. This time it'll be going up to Leighton for sure. Yeah i did think the T28 might still be a bit laggy, maybe i'll re plan and go for the T25.
