Just looking on the Forge website at their current goodies and the Twintake caught my eye.
Twintake

It all looks very fancy with some impressive claims on power gains but I'm a little confused with the science on how it could actually gain any power?

The size of the turbo inlet limits the amount of air able to flow into the compressor and that inlet extends to the induction pipe attached to the front of it. I understand the Venturi and reducing the size of the inlet to increase velocity as it approaches the turbo but why would having two air filters give any more gains than having one correctly sized one?
It all seems a little too much like aesthetics over function to me , why would two filters joining together on a standard sized pipe work any better than having a correctly sized filter?

" The Twintake system is currently available for the 2.0 litre only versions of the VW MK5 Golf FSiT, TSi and Edition 30, Scirocco TSi, Audi A3 / S3 2 litre, Seat Leon Cupra(Fsi) and Seat Leon TFSi. "

These are all diesel engines, yes ?

No - the FSi engine is petrol - direct injection - ranges from about 1.6 all the way up to the 4.2

Well then my answer would have to be - marketing ! Twice the airfilters, twice the price !

That's all I can think Tricky. I can't see any advantage of two separate filters feeding one induction pipe?

Wasn't there an Italian guy who's done this before ?
Think i've got the pic of it fitted to a coop.

Packaging. It's about air speed over the filter material, one properly sized filter will do the same job but if you don't have the space for say a 9-12" long barrel type filter in some type of cold air box it maybe a viable solution to run two. I cant see the actual filter element size (and I didn't search the page) but if had that I could calculate the reccommended maximum BHP per filter. Maybe on the S3 for example a single "can" is not really enough when chasing a big upgrade

Three hundred & odd quid for something you know as an adult spent in other areas will make a difference .........come on.

They say they picked up 17 bhp over standard, but how inefeciant was the standard ? OEM's place more emphasis on filtration than any other parameter.
But you have to wonder could they not have improved the intake, produced more power, reduced the engine size, claimed less emmissons and better mpg ?

Better to cause no restriction in this area, even create a positive pressure if possible, 1 psi less pressure here means 1 less for the compressor to heat up.
