Has the eye end of the damper snapped off?

I don't understand what you mean by "the thread is knackerd" , which thread?

Just out of interest, did you torque up the bolts with the car on the ground or still jacked up?

Hi guys, sorry wrote that in a bit of a rush, what's happens is that the shaft of the shock has undone its self from the eye of the shock as you can see in the first picture, and the threaded end of the shock shaft has being banging around in the top of the subframe and has damaged it. The shock eye has not snapped but obviously won't screw back on. Jumbo don't know if that was torqued when on the car, probaly not as there would not be enough room to do it,

Jumbo rolleyes laugh

Ah so they must use a universal damper and adapt the eye ends for each car.
How bad are the threads, can you chase them with a die to re cut them?

I'd certainly be using thread lock on them in future!

Ha sorry auto correct on my phone blush

Just being having another look at the shock , and there is some slight marking on the shaft where they have rubbed/hit something, but if you push the shaft in , when it comes out there is a layer of oil on it - think its scrap. And when they go back on will definantly lock tight them, althought cant see how it should come loose!

The end comes off because the adjuster is underneath it. I've done over 2.5k on mine and 40 - 50 laps around track and they are fine.

No, the 'eye' bolts on over the adjuster, if the threads have gone you will need a new shock.

ok - bit of an update on this, Joe (fcss) has spoken to D2 (in California) on my behalf about this problem , and joe was told that the rear shocks are just bolt and are set at the factory, the guy did not seem to bothered by problem rolleyes so joe has taken the other side off and checked it also thumb
But on a positive note, I am really impressed with the D2's they handle nice, the car is flat around corners and considering I have 18"s with a 35 profile the ride is surprisingly good..

well... got a message of flea to tell me the shock on the other side had come unattached, same type of thing as before ooo

Starting to get a bit worried about these shocks, could I run them inverted?
so at least I could check the ball joint is tight with out the hassle of taking them off at the top of the subframe?

Cheers

I don't think you can run them inverted, due to the fact the top and bottom bolts are of different sizes.

Begbie is right, I wondered the same when installing mines but it's not possible due to different eye diameters.

Unless you can press the bush out of the eye ends and swap the whole bush around then it's not possible.
This isn't good news, I think D2s should be off the shopping list for suspension upgrades frown
