Thank heaven the FA are going for Hodgson; this should defuse any expectations for Euro 2012 wink

(a Spurs fan - we can keep Harry)

Yes, you can. And you're welcome to him.

A Saints fan?

I have been a Spurs fan for 50 years, but my allegiance changed for 3 years when I was at Southampton Uni. Saw every cup game in 1976 apart from the final (couldn't get a ticket frown ). McAlliog to Channon - Channon scored. Great times, and a great night in Southampton when they brought the cup back.

The Dell was a great old ground, and I saw some good football there - it will be good to see the Saints back in the top flight in August wink

Yes, although to my eternal shame as a teenager in Germany I was a Man Utd fan. Consequently the only decent trophy Saints have ever achieved was not a joyous occasion smile

I've never been a fan of Redknapp, even before he came to Saints. To be (very reluctantly) fair to him the die was already cast that season. Ironically for me it was Utd that sealed their fate!

FWIW my dad used to run a pub in the city centre in the early 80s. He reckoned the 2 best sets of visiting fans were Spurs and Utd, never any trouble, out to enjoy the day. Pubs used to shut for Chelsea and Millwall.

I hate the idea of Hodgson as manager - but this is a selfish outlook in that it will probably mean west brom raid us for their next manager, the wonderful Chris Hughton frown

He gets the best from mediocre players. Ideal candidate.

I think you're forgetting the Johnson Paint Trophy. smile

As much as I despise him, Redknapp may well have been the best choice for the 90mins of a match. But it seems the FA want someone who does more than that. Someone who'll oversee the throughput from the academy to the national senior side, a kind of Manager + Howard Wilkinson role, and that isn't Harry's strength - he lousy with young players, under him the Euro team wouldn't have been much different from the egos that failed in the World Cup.

No I wasn't smile

ISTR that the original split from Pompey was due to Redknapp's indifference to developing youth football?

Hardly surprising given his penchant for moving on and taking the best with him rolleyes

Exactly, managers like Roy, Roberto Martinez, Harry, David Moyes, these are the managers you want for the national teams, as they seem to build a team spirit and put fires in the bellys of the players, so that raw desire triumphs over natural ability.

Just my opinion. Walter Smith done it at Rangers then done it on the National scene for Scotland.
