Well, for 98 models, it turns out it's 8% better than the average for cars of that age... interesting to see that they do fail on the things we expect, too.

Don't like this page, though... http://good-garage-guide.honestjohn.co.uk/mot/1995

Mine's only failed once I think in the 14 years it's been tested, so who's been dragging the average down?

Interesting that for a 99 plate it's more likley to pass tahn many cars and hit's the average (nearly).

Good spot that - just wish mine would start.....

Although that's not EVERY MOT just ones in the good garage scheme.

I noticed that about 1999 cars as well.

They either have owners who are friendly with the MOT garages or maintain their cars well!! laugh

Likewise, I can account for about half of the number plate failures.

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.
I even unplugged my own.

I can't recall any of my Coupes ever failing an MOT, although I'm well aware that I have a 'lenient' tester wink

Is it? It had the option to "add a garage" on the top and it's called good garage guide.

Bloody maths 2+2 never equals 4 in my head these days!

Shame it doesn't give stats rated on severity of fail, I bet most would be "Handbrake efficiency"!

It does... there are dropdowns that let you get into the gory details if you click on a year.

The big fails are brakes, lighting, and suspension.

I like the "with the introduction of the 20v models performance jumped into supercar territory"

Also that a rival is cited as an SZ!

Super detailed breakdown (Bad choice of words) wink of MOT failure areas - 1998 20VT - Mine failed on brake pipes this year, so I reckon it's a good idea to check the most common areas of failure as a matter of course. This info doc. is a pretty useful indicator smile

I'm currently working through my car in preparation for it's first MOT in 2 years...this is a pretty useful guide, just hope that I do not have too many of the listed ailments!

Mines 2000 and looks like Coupes built in 2000 are the best for passing MOTs laugh
That said mines passed every time in the past 3 years and after a quick once over at MM the other week looks like it's going to pass again! (fingers crossed)

7 MOT's on Coupé's in my ownership and 7 passes...and all it took was thousands of pounds to achieve it...

Mine has fallen over twice in 12 years of tests. Once for a sticky rear brake balance valve, which was an easy fix with some wd40, a hammer and lost of grease. I didn't know about this weakness so had not check for correct function prior to the test.

The second time was this year after being ill with an eye problem in the run-up to the test, I hadn't done a full check and a spring was found to be broken, and then the guy started to be picky and noted down a rusty disc and porous brake pipes which were not really anything but muddy and dry looking thanks to the "bulding site" our car park at work is currently on.

I'm "now under the car, checking and repairing the obvious rust" and it does not look too bad in general, especially for a 15 year old FIAT smile

I expect that a little regular maintenance on the weak points should enable a pass in most cases. The failures are probably as a result of using the MOT check to find out what is wrong!
