Sadly all 6's from BMW have VANOS issues. Good luck. My 330 suffered from it...

There's a good BMW specialists garage in Burton, not too far from Nuneaton. It's actually called BMW, which in turn is; Burton Motor Works. Nit cheap, but cheaper than BMW dealers and as good, they say

If it helps you any my brother's 6 cylinder had problems with crank and can sensors. A coil pack that was going down and a leak from under the inlet manifold that required smoking to find. These were all separate issues but gave the symptoms you describe.

Have you had the ecu read? I'm fairly certain it will hold info on what's wrong.

You need to read the fault memory and go from there. There is no egr valve on the 323. Crankcase breathers can fail along with the associated pipework. Vanos failures are not common on these.

I didn't know that, i bow to your superior BMW knowledge. bow I have heard of faults with almost every sensor on BMW's though. It's the only thing that repeatedly puts me off buying one.

Try OSC Motorsport in Rugby.

They're an Indepedent BMW specialist. They looked after my old 3 series. Very knowledgeable and good value.
