Just found out my cam lobes are worn and all the metal has found its way to all the vital bearings etc...

Engine out, stripped back, re-build, £2000 estimate.

Not sure if it will make it back.

I'm going down the gym, please don't get in my way.

RIP my baby.

Speak with the specialists on the forum about a replacement engine, that'd work out significantly cheaper than a rebuild at £2k!

What makes your mechanic think that bits of cam lobe are stuck in your bearings and not in the oil filter?
Is the engine knocking?
Does he/she mean that the oil galleries are blocked?

Replacing the cams would be a little bit more work than a cambelt, but not much. There are plenty of donor engines about.

You'd be seriously unlucky if the cam lobes have worn fast enough to get enough swarf to ruin your engine. Unless you had no oil in there.

The other way round, i.e. the bottom end went and took the cams is more likely.

The non turbo motor came in a few fiat models so you shouldn't have problems sorting a motor on the cheap.

As suggested, I wouldn't expect this was related to cam lobs unless you had massive oil starvation issues...in which case it would have gone any way.
Good luck with your search for a new engine, I know there was some one selling a VIS block complete on here some time ago, and I can see there is a link to the none VIS above.
Just pick the right one for your car!

Yes, he (the mechanic) explained as samsite999 has quoted, stavation of oil although plenty of oil in the sump.

Didn't understand really, just in shock.

Not alot of money to spare and need a runabout to get to work as this was my only car.

I'm not a mechanic but kinda looking forward to dropping the old lump out and refurbing the engine bay and taking my time fitting another.

Another engine - £250

Bribing the wife - £100

Owning a Coupe - Priceless

£250 is about right for an engine, especially with that amount of miles. the engine i sourced was from a marea with 65k on it.it went from £300 to 6 months later i collected it for £70 laugh i paid a mate £100 to fit it,took him 4 months on his odd weekends off ..but it went in in the end lol

thatll never happen again,so i went for a 20vt smile
