Going North on the A9
hello everybody!

My name's Jim and I live in Edinburgh. I'm on the verge of Coupe ownership (again, after a 13 year gap).

I am wondering if anybody has ever lowered their driver's seat, or is aware of whether it's possible? I'm 183cm tall and in versions with a sunroof, a haircut isn't going to be enough to prevent me from polishing the roof lining.
I was going to hold out for a non-sunroof version, but wonder if this has been discussed before...?

Thanks

JimP

Hi JimP
I would say no, there is no way of lowering the seat.
It is in fact quite low sitting to begin with, relative to floor.

It's one of the reasons why I sold my sprintie and bought my Plus, to get away from a sunroof.

The standard seats, whilst being a disaster on the support front, are about as low as they get.

You can get lower... but it involves race seats and hacking old ones apart to get runners.

Save yourself the grief and get one without a sunroof.

The problem is the seat supports that are part of the floor.
Attack them and you could go down a couple of inches.

I agree with Kenno. A plain roof looks nicer too.

You can't go lower than the floor.
Be interested to know how you can achieve this using original runners, and one thing I would not want to do is cut out the beam. What are you going to attach the seat to then.
I know nothing is impossible, but it's going some.
Are you speaking from experience about 'race' seats?

I love my sunroofs; the only thing wrong with my VT6 is an unadulterated ceiling wink

I had a bucket seat with seat mounting frames.

Hi Jim, see the bug is getting irreversible!

When I changed my seats for Recaros they felt a fraction lower: whether it's my imagination or not I don't know. I've fairly long-backed and with a combination of rake and steering wheel adjustment I don't get any grief from the sunroof but there again I'm the underside of 6' tall.

You're welcome to pop over and try mine again to see if you can find a suitable solution!

By the way there's a pretty good non sunroof moonie going on Pistonheads - local wink

This one Jim

"Minter"

I'm pretty sure you saw it at the Hill of Tarvit meet!

Probably off topic but the sprinty hasn't posted a lot of mileage....

but if you do risk buying it and want to change from the cloth seats I've got a good set of leathers!

yes, I had a look and thought that was the one you meant- it's a little more than I was hoping to spend (but actually £8.5K cheaper than the last Coupe I bought!!)
Yes- I'm not expecting the Sprinty to be a peach, but you've got to start somewhere. (in terms of re-aquiring the mindset)

that's very interesting about the seats- what colour, Simon...?

I'm 180cm and I found the bean on the top of my cap was boring a hole in my bone dome. A little adjustment of the rake of the seatback made that fine. I'm guessing it's the proportion of upper and lower body sections that's the problem. Have a vertebrum removed and your legs lengthened? wink
